    3. Hi, Harvey-- I don't know much about these things. I know my computer came with 16 MG of memory and I added another 32 MG. This is what "diagnostics" has to say about the memory: System Board . . . . . . . . . . 16 Megabytes DIMM Slot 1 (Unknown) . . . . 32 Megabytes Total Compaq Memory . . . . . . 48 Megabytes Total Physical Windows Memory . 48584 Kbytes Total Swapfile Memory . . . . . 48584 Kbytes Does that tell you anything? walt [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harvey Nimmo" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2001 11:14 AM Subject: AW: [CFTW] Crashes > Hello again Walt, > > I tend to think that buying a new computer is like capitulation...it is > really a last resort! 3. Walt, The DIMM slots are what we're looking for! The fact that it is called slot 1 suggests there may be more! If so, you can add memory in the others without having to ditch the 32MB. If not, you could probably replace the 32MB with say 64MB or even 128MB. But before thinking of spending money you could increase your Swapfile memory, say, to 96MB. To do that, click with the right mouse button on the Desktop Explorer symbol and choose 'properties'. In the properties window select the rightmost register ('characteristics'?... sorry...don't know what the English term is, my Windows is German). Select the button at the bottom right 'Virtual memory' and set the user settings of swap memory, both minimum and maximum, to the same value, say 96MB (if there is enough memory available on your fixed disk). You will have to reboot your machine, I think, to let the new settings take effect. See if that helps. Harvey >Hi, Harvey-- > >I don't know much about these things.
