Using what criteria? Next available new IRN assigned to next new individual added? Are old/discontinued IRNs reused? If so, where do they go in the queue? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ira J Lund" <ira.lund@cf-software.com> To: <CFT-WIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 06, 2004 9:22 AM Subject: Re: [CFTW] CFT - IRN > You can't change an IRN. You need to reset the date/time on your computer. (GRIN) Regards, George
When you delete a person, the IRN that was assigned to that person is reused for the next person you enter. If no old IRN's are available, then the next IRN after the last one is used. Don't understand what you mean by, "...where do they go in the queue?" Thanks for mentioning the system date error George, that would have really messed up my backups!... Dang kids! What I was getting at was... if the deleted IRN wasn't just put back on top of the list of usable IRNs, where was it's position in the line-up of available numbers. A line-up is a queue, but I'm pretty sure you knew that part. I have sometimes merged two people into one, and the now unused IRN was not assigned to the next new person I added to my database. I assumed the list of available IRNs wasn't really a list, but rather just generated from the last used number and the deleted IRN was then randomly inserted in a list of re-useable numbers, or gone forever. No worries. I have enough problems just entering data without worrying about what number is assigned to whom. But that's just me. It may mean a great deal to someone else.
