Hello, I've been using CFT for about three years now but have just today subscribed to the list. I have a case of a same sex (female) marriage (in Massachusetts) with a birth of twins involved via artificial insemination by an unnamed (the identity is known but this is private) donor. The other spouse then adopted the twins. I've added the 2 married women as normal so they are listed as spouses but when I add a child the parents are labeled as "mother" and "father" as the program typically assumes. My goal is to eliminate the "father" label for this case while still being able to view the family with two "parents" or "spouses" or "mothers" on one screen. Additionally, at the risk of confusing things, they already have another child who I think was conceived by the other woman, using the same method but well before their marriage was legally recorded in Massachusetts. The other spouse (the mother of the newborn twins) then adopted the child. So each is either a birth mother or an adoptive mother to all three children. I added this just in case someone resolves the status in the first paragraph and then I find the solution unfriendly to the reverse of the parent-types. I don't care how much background I have to place Notes, I only want to be able to view this Family Group as a single unit in a single view. May I just state here that I realize the subject is a sensitive one that is apt to provoke an emotional response in some circles. My interest in writing this message is purely technical with an eye to recording a real family history event. Please supress any temptation to involve me in a conversation or debate on social issues surrounding the circumstances of the above cited relationship, no matter which "side" you may be on. Thanks in advance for any constructive input you might offer. Tim Nolan, North Andover, MA
