    3. I consider one copy of CFT for the family legal - even if you install it on more than one computer. So having a copy on your laptop and on your PC at home is just fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- Mr. Ira J. 3. Hi, well it depends on how yoiu have them configured. For instance, I have a laptop on which I have CFTW installed, with the database hosted there. Great for when I am out and about. But when I'm home I prefer to use the larger keyboard and screen of my desktop. Because I have bothe the PC's networked I run a separate CFTW install on the desktop and access the databse on the laptop. Works a treat as long as you don't try to open the database fom both locations simultaneously. Is that of interest? 3. I have had exactly the same problem, i.e. I lost all the dates when I tried to read the data file on a new PC. Ira kindly offered to sort the problem if I sent him the file. I did and he sent it back sorted. Except that my machine still wouldn't read the dates - though it had notes and sources still intact. I didn't like to bother Ira again so I re-entered the direct line dates and all seems well with re-entered data. A relative who understands PCs better than I do said he has looked inside the data file and found the dates still there. He was unable to explain why CFT wouldn't read them. I look forward to seeing replies to your query. Steve Please reply to sbwhiteley@iee.org

    3. Sorry, I sent this back to one person instead of the list. Here is what I sent. ------------------------------------------------------ This is becoming a real deal........! I have made gedcoms from family tree maker & Legacy. I can open them in the opposite programs and they import also into PAF and work. I have saved them all ways you can, ansi, ansel, gedcom 5.5 etc, they all work in family tree maker, legacy, and PAF, but are considered corrupt in Cumberland. I downloaded the free 45 day trial from the Cumberland web site, I do not need to download any other files do I?? (I did this twice) Any suggestions after this? Thanks, Jerry Longstrom
