    3. Ian, He WAS subscribed, but I manually un-subscribed him. I'm sorry, but Rootsweb frowns on this type of solicitation. It is just another form of SPAMMING. It's especially bad when he has evidently sent identical queries to many, many Rootsweb Lists. It's as bad as those junk envelopes one gets every day in his/her USPS mailbox. 3. Folks, you can do as you wish, but I caution you to NOT respond to this type of request. First of all, this person has made a list of Mailing Lists and has probably sent his request to each List, after first subscribing to the Lists. These Mailing Lists at Rootsweb were not intended for such purposes. (It's called SPAMMING!) Regards, George W. 1. RE: [CFTW] Descendant Story
    2. Paul and Barbara Barrett
    3. I don't know whether this helps or you are already doing this, but you could probably reduce the amount of eyeballing required by getting your PC to do some of the work in the word processed document. I haven't tested this idea out but I am pretty sure it would work. I assume that the text that is repeating is, in fact, identical? 1. Visually find the first occurrence 2. Highlight that piece of text and do Ctrl+C to copy it 3. Do Ctrl+H to invoke search and replace. 4. Move your cursor to the 'Text to find' box and press Ctrl+V to paste the text from step 2 5. Move your cursor to the 'Replace With' and enter a space (see note 1 below) 6. Press the OK button. 7. Windows should now start to find each occurrence of the text and you will then have the option to delete them selectively or all at once (see note 2 below) Hope I am not teaching you grandma to suck eggs. I realise that with visual acuity problems you might still have a challenge with this idea, but at least you will only have to eyeball the search text once. Note 1 Your PC might not like replacing the text with a regular space. If that is the case you can try using what is called a hard space. It looks the same but the PC treats it differently! To generate a hard space, hold down the ALT key then enter 255 on the numeric keypad (NOT the numbers above the alpha keys.) Then release the ALT key. Note 2 Be careful how you use 'replace all' or you will lose the occurrence that you want to keep. It is probably better to use selective replacement. Try this. Start your search and replace from the second occurrence. Replace them selectively. When Windows gets to the bottom of the document it will then go back to the beginning of the document. That will be a great clue that you should stop! Your PC may even stop at that point and say 'Windows has finished searching the document do you want to start again from the top,' or words to that effect, which is an even better clue. But if you get over enthusiastic with the find and replace, and accidentally delete them all, you still have the text in the PC's copy buffer, so if you go to where you need to reinstate it, Ctrl+C should do the trick. Hope that helps Paul Barrett paul.barrett@hornton.org.uk <mailto:paul.barrett@hornton.org.uk> -----Original Message----- From: walterboswell [mailto:hogdu26@knology.net] Sent: 21 June 2005 19:24 To: CFT-WIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CFTW] Descendant Story I do that, of course, but it is rather time consuming for a man with 20/200 and 6/200 vision acuity. 3. My answer to this question is that you can basically do whatever you would like. I do not know of any "standards". CFT allows you to connect two people together as even with the same gender. And you can tag the children as Adopted, Foster, Other, etc. You can create a special event as Leonel suggested, however you might wish. But in all unusual cases I normally suggest after doing all this - a short note in the Individual or an event note is always helpful simply explaining in plain terms the situation. 2. Jens E. Brammer
    3. Welcome to the list, Tim. You will hear no objections to your input from us here in Denamrk; we have had this kind of "marriages" for many years. But it is, of course, confusing when it comes to genealogy! As a tip to Ira (if he plans a program change to handle these cases): in Denmark and other European countries, I believe, we do not use the word Marriage (or it's Danish translation, Aegteskab!), we use a term "Registreret Parforhold", which translates into English as Registered Partnership. Just a thought. Jens E. Brammer, Holte, Denmark -----Oprindelig meddelelse----- Fra: Tim Nolan [mailto:nolan.tim@comcast.net] Sendt: 18. juni 2005 02:19 Til: CFT-WIN-L@rootsweb.com Emne: [CFTW] Same sex marriages - any way to set this up in CFT PRO V3.13? Hello, I've been using CFT for about three years now but have just today subscribed to the list. I have a case of a same sex (female) marriage (in Massachusetts) with a birth of twins involved via artificial insemination by an unnamed (the identity is known but this is private) donor. The other spouse then adopted the twins. I've added the 2 married women as normal so they are listed as spouses but when I add a child the parents are labeled as "mother" and "father" as the program typically assumes. My goal is to eliminate the "father" label for this case while still being able to view the family with two "parents" or "spouses" or "mothers" on one screen. Additionally, at the risk of confusing things, they already have another child who I think was conceived by the other woman, using the same method but well before their marriage was legally recorded in Massachusetts. The other spouse (the mother of the newborn twins) then adopted the child. So each is either a birth mother or an adoptive mother to all three children. I added this just in case someone resolves the status in the first paragraph and then I find the solution unfriendly to the reverse of the parent-types. I don't care how much background I have to place Notes, I only want to be able to view this Family Group as a single unit in a single view. May I just state here that I realize the subject is a sensitive one that is apt to provoke an emotional response in some circles. My interest in writing this message is purely technical with an eye to recording a real family history event. Please supress any temptation to involve me in a conversation or debate on social issues surrounding the circumstances of the above cited relationship, no matter which "side" you may be on.
