What surmname(s)?
My name is Bill. I am a fourth generatin American and I am looking for my history. Can you help me. Thanks, Bill
I am using the Clipboard. Just copy the source by Ctrl-C then paste it by using Ctrl-V. That is a very fast and easy method of using the same source over and over again. Sigurd Eliassen Norway
I would also find this extremely useful. It is very time consuming entering the same source over and over when entering new data. There is also the option where you enter a period followed by the record number - then press tab or next field and the program automatically inserts that source. This works for place, misc data and source fields. Enter a period followed by the record number. Real slick for cases where you need to enter same data repetitively. All you have to do is memorize or jot on a paper the few commonly used record numbers. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. Greetings Ira and all, I am in the process of entering a large quantity of repetitively referenced information into my database, and would find it useful if the following suggestion could be implemented in a future revision. When entering/selecting a Source through the Select Source method, if no source is currently referenced, then a default should be provided as the *last accessed source*. This would then allow a simple action of pressing the Enter key to accept the entry. If a new one was required, the list could be repositioned to get the other entry. If a source was already in use, it should be positioned at that reference in the list. I am using a workaround at the moment, by editing the required repetitive reference to start with a period. This places it first on the list, and allows it to be accepted with the Enter key. When my next required source changes, I simply re-edit the last one to remove the period, and then edit the next one in a similar manner. re: photo files. Ian, you were right. I fixed the directory problem and the photos are back up. Thanks for taking the time to reply! Roy
No problem here. Something just isn't right. Go to the Options Menu - Database Configuration - last tab and set the image directory. Se if that helps. Can you get a list of images on teh "Available List" on left of photo page? If so then the program is accessing the images. There are check boxes you need to check to view them. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Hanukka to all my CFT-Win friends and users! Ira --------------------------------------------------- Genealogist's Christmas Eve (Twas the night before Christmas) 'Twas the night before Christmas When all through the house Not a creature was stirring, Not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote; Sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and such Were proof that my work had become too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills, While others bought gifts to bring Christmas cheers, I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and yanked up the sash. When what with my wondering eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the house top the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys and 'ole Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa--KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good 'ole Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy: When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you," Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amusement--the cover it read Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead. "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug." He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folk who can't find a thing." "Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!" ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. I have just noticed that there are two (2) social security standard events: SOCS (CFTStd) marked CFT-Win SSN (GED Std) marked GEDCOM how do they differ and under what circumstances would I use one and not the other? Thanks folks! Karen Pastuzyn

Check that the Image Sub-Directory under Database Configuration, Other, is set to the correct directory. I think some (not all) other users found that the directory got lost on the conversion to the newer version. Regards, Ian Fettes Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Reply to: fettesi@st.net.au
I noticed that the v 2.26x does not display the photo files anylonger. Is there a workaround to that??

My family tree as a searchable database (living individuals omitted) is now available at http://home.att.net/~emquad when you click on "Ancestry" or "Surnames" under the "News" section. Comments welcomed. Enjoy. Jon
I just read a post from Karen at RootsWeb and she says Brian now has the Subscription Page changed to permit contributions via credit cards. That is great news !!!!! All you subscribers who enjoy these Lists and would like to do a little to help RootWeb should consider a "Christmas Donation" to RootsWeb. Some of you new subscribers may not be aware, but Karen and Brian run RootsWeb as a non-profit operation. They do not require that any subscriber pay anything to be able to use this wonderful genealogy service. We Listowners do pay a yearly pittance for the privilege of having RootsWeb host our Lists. Believe me, what we pay is merely a drop in the bucket compared to the enormous costs that RootsWeb has every year. So, we hope that some day enough subscribers will find it in their heart to contribute something, even if only a few dollars. Just for your informa- tion, as of November, Brian and Karen had already spent over $60,000 out of their own pockets for new equipment, software, etc. They run the service with no compensation, that is they don't get paid a red cent. Now they are having to buy new hard drives because of the newly added Archives, which are eating up disk space rapidly. Here is the URL for becoming a Contributor to RootsWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html Near the bottom of the page you will find a link to a place where you may make your contributions via credit card. It is a secure site, so you don't have to be worried about anyone else gaining access to your credit card number. It's absolutely safe!!!!! Looking forward to seeing many of you making small contributions for a good cause. Regards, SgtGeorge Listowner of Several Lists at RootsWeb
