    3. I have just visited the page. There is an English translation, so you don't have to understand Norwegian. If you press the English flag, you will be sent to the English session. If you from there press the Windows-Table you can read it all in English. But the English links are as follows: http://www.sn.no/disnorge/ny1/Programe.htm http://www.sn.no/disnorge/ny1/Windowse.htm Be aware that the minimum requirements are those marked with an red asterisk and not the others. The functions available in the programs are those marked with a cross. The crosses are supposed to come from the program developers - that means you as far as CFTW is concerned - if I understand the situation correctly. As far as I know CFTW, there are a few mistakes: "3.8. RTF format on all reports for export to word processor?" CFTW does not have that yet, but the table says so. " 4.2. Producing a list of all info. that were not imported?" The table says yes, but that is wrong as far as I know. CFTW does not produce a log file listing the unrecognized information for the different individuals during gedcom import. Most programs do that. "5.4. Norwegian direct in all printouts 100%?" The table says no, but as far as I know the answer is yes - or what? According to the table, CFTW comes short on the following points to be among the recommended programs: "3.2. Descendant report in list form with children and marriages? 1) " Explanation 1) you will find below the table and goes like this: "1) Decendant report in list form; Based on one person all direct are listed. Decendant report incl. children/marriages; in addition to all direct decendants also complete lit of children and their marriages per generation can be listed." This English does not look very well (with some mis-spellings) and I don't understand what kind of report they are talking about. "3.3. Ancestor report in listform? 2)" "3.4. Ancestor report with graphic boxes and optional content? 2)" Explanation 2) is also below the table and goes like this: "2) Ancestor report in list form; Based on one person all direct ancestors are listed. With free content; in addition the possiibility to choos which events to show per person" (The quoted English is not mine!) Even if the table says that CFTW fulfill those requirements, according to my knowledge it does not because it is not possible to choose which events to include in the Ancestor Story report. "4.2. Producing a list of all info. that were not imported?" "4.3. Warning if the import is merging with existing file?" Regards Sigurd Eliassen Norway

    3. Checking a few things today. A few weeks ago Ian Fettes reported a bug: > Take the case of a family set, that is fatehr, mother, and child, but with a second family containg a child only. Selecting the second family gives a display showing the father and child, with the option of -add spouse-. If a spouse is added through this option, it does not link intot he FRN containing the child of the second family, but incorrectly replaces the spouse of the first family.< I cannot duplicate this. I create a new database, enter the info as described and all is correct - as should be. I wonder if your database is corrupt. Even after a rebuild does this still occur. I may need to look at a database of yours (if small enough to e-mail) or a better description to find this bug. How can I duplicate the problem? Also along the same lines René Hasekamp also reported: >if you add the marriage event in the event list of the FEMALE partner, it will NOT appear in the event list of the male partner!< Again, I cannot duplicate. It does work in the cases I have tried. I wonder if the database is corrupt or something. Anything to help me find the bug - if it is really there would be helpful. 1. Photos During Merge
    2. Ira J. Lund
    3. A few weeks ago Joseph Cain wrote about a problem where he didn't think that photo images were properly copied to the final directory after a Database Merge. Looking into this, I had to remind myself of what really happens. Since images now can be stored in a directory other than the database directory, NO photos are copied from either original database during a Database Merge. When he thought some photos were copied from one of the databases, in reality the image directory in the Options-Database Config probably was pointing to one of the image directories and there were no files copied. Because of this seperate image directory I do not think it wise to copy any files. You will just need to be aware of what is happening here and make certain to copy or set the image directory properly. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. 3. I was wondering if someone from Norway could check this site out. The web address below is a "pre-public" site and hopefully I won't get in trouble for allowing a fwe of you to check it out for me. Since I cannot read Norwegian I am curious as to what are the parts that they say CFT-Win lacks to not be considered as meeting minimum requirements. The only requirement missing that I can "read" <hah - as if I know any Norwegian> is that my program cannot sort on given name, patronymic and following farm name. 3. If you get symbols instead of superscript numbers, it is a dead-certain sign that the LUND fonts are not properly installed and interpreted by the program. See below. Ira -------------------------- There are a set of 4 LUND fonts that were supposed to be installed when CFT-Win is installed. But for some reason, occaisionally, I get reports that the fonts didn't get installed. This is normally noticable by a few letters being cut off on the right hand side or on list reports where one column seems to run into the next. The solution: 1. If you are using Windows 3.1 go to the Control Panel and Fonts and install the 4 Lund fonts. They should have been copied into the c:\windows\system directory. 2. If you are using Window 95 then use Explorer to find the fonts. They should be in c:\windows\fonts. (Although some earlier versions of CFT-Win inadvertantly installed inot c:\windows\font - without the "s". If this is the case you may copy the four files to the proper location.) Anyway, if you double mouse-click on the fonts one at a time to view them, this should install them so that they will be recognized by CFT-Win - as well as other programs. 3. G'day Ira and other CFTW users. In the printed manual the link between sources in the printed story and the list of sources at the end is a superscript number. When I print a story my links are a variety of symbols which almost look like punctuation errors. Is there configuration value that I can set to tell it to use superscript numbers ?? Or is this a 'feature' of 2.27 ?? Thanks for the answer to the "add child" and "add father" problem, I'll look forward to the new release. Cheers ... Tony de Bont

    2. Tony de Bont
    3. G'day Ira I've been having a great time with your software adding all those events that other packages can't adequately deal with. I now have over 600 names but a long way to go to get all the details recorded. Most of may ancestors are Dutch and I have been using the name in the format: Antonius Johannes/de BONT/ when I add a child or a father the program defaults to a surname of /BONT/. This appears a strange behavior given that by your specification the characters enclosed by the / / are deemed to be the surname. Program revision is 2.27 16 bit By the way - love the ability to sort on the REAL part of our Dutch surnames. Sure stops that crush at the 'd' and 'v'. Thanks for a great product. Cheers .... 3. Hi all ! a) Is there anyone who can translate the Lund-Fonts to postscript Type 1 fonts. I am currently working to build adobe acrobad files from cft-win, and there are some problems if the font is not available in postscript format. b) Question to Ira! To use the individual story report from cftwin it is a nice feature if I can change the order of the stoy parts place, misc, and date for some events. This will produce better semantics in german language, but should be chooseable for each event seperately. with best reagrds, Karl kmacku@csi.com

    2. Slee Genealogy
    3. Dear Ira, Firstly, thank you for including my Home Page http://www.slee.ndirect.co.uk on your list of CFTW users pages. I hope someone will find it a fruitful link for their own genealogical research. It is likely to be updated often as I am currently very active on gleaning information - particularly the COCKING family of St.Ives, Cornwall, UK. I think I have found a bug in CFTW 2.27 16 -bit version for Windows 3.1: Key individual = Father, with at least one event. Add spouse, with no events (that seems the crucial factor) Try to insert Address event in key individual as a Family event. The event is added to the key individual but not to the spouse. I can get round it by adding the event to the spouse as a Family event, where it is then added to both individual's lists. Hope that is clear. Thanks for your excellent record, and such a friendly attitude, when it comes to dealing with bugs and requests. It puts CFTW at the top of the pile AFAIAC. The option to select the pages to print only occurs when printing from the PREVIEW and won't occur when printing from the Report Window. The reason is that within my program I don't have a way to capture the page numbering and select pages to print when I send the report directly to the printer. I can only do it from the preview.
