    3. >> >I've noticed two strange 'events' in the Standard Events - no name as such >> but >codes of 'E GI' and 'E SS" ?? Yes, you need to delete these either before or after updating to Ver 2.29. They were in my original Standard Events. But because of the auto update in CFT-Win when you update it will think those were user-added events and carry them over to ver 2.29. Ver 2.29 will be posted on my web site mid-day today (Feb 20, 1998) Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. Yes it is. Go to Options - Database Configuration. You can set the default for the Living flag there. Because of the LIVING flag bug, I hope I can fix it right away and release 2.29. It is a nasty bug. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. 2. Tony de Bont
    3. Ira Thank you for providing a fix to the Dutch surname bug. I've been adding children at about 15 to 20 per night for the last two nights and haven't had to 'fix' the surname once. The fix came much sooner than I had hoped. Using Vers 2.28 16 bit code Strangely, the 'Living Flag' bug is very handy for me, I'm adding family in the 1700 and 1800s, so now I don't have to tick the flag each time I create a new entry :^}. Is it possible to set the default action of that flag ?? I've noticed two strange 'events' in the Standard Events - no name as such but codes of 'E GI' and 'E SS" ?? Another small annoyance - the settings for some events I had created were changed during the upgrade. No big deal it was fixed in a sew seconds. Event Type went from Family to Individual Edit Display went from Spouse Name to Misc Data Standard went from User to CFT-Win Love the software and your and the group's postings to this list. Thanks ... Tony That person's question regarding Y2K compatibility shows how under informed many of the public is on the nature of the problem.

    2. J.E. Myers
    3. One (from v.2.28): It was good the change was made in Story to eliminate any phantom spouse. But please correct the ensuing phrase from "They had the following children:" to "[Commonly used Given Name (for Story)] had the following children:" Two (all versions): Please eliminate the double period in Story caused when the Individual's surname is appended with a title that normally has a period (e.g. Sr. or Jr.) and no further information is known on that Individual. In this case, what comes out, e.g., is "i John Doe, Jr.." J. ______________________________ | | | EMQUAD International, Ltd. | | P.O. I know I should be nice to everyone who asks me this question, but it is a bit funny. I wonder if those who ask even know what the year 2000 problem is? Basically the problem is that if you record dates in a database using only 2 digits, like 98 instead of 1998, then when 2000 comes along, the 2 digit date of 00 will be less than 99 and make computers and some programs have a hernia! Well, if you have been recording your genealogy using 4 digits (instead of 2) then there is no year 2000 problem any more than there was a 1900 problem or a 1000 problem. If you entered 45 as the year then us genealogists would always wonder if you mean 1845, 1945, 1745 or maybe 45 A.D. (45 years after Christ). So we have always advized people to record years using 4 digits. So I don't see why the so-called "Year 2000 Problem" should ever be a concern for genealogists. 1. CFT-Win Ver 2.28
    2. Ira J. Lund
    3. NEW VERSION 2.28 NOW on <http://www.cf-software.com/>www.cf-software.com ! Version 2.28 Improvements (Updated February 18, 1998) * Installation of Fonts A change has been made in the way the included LUND fonts are installed on your system. The main purpose is to help avoid accidental deletion of all fonts on your system during a CFT-Win uninstall. During installation the LUND fonts are placed in the CFT-Win directory. Then upon first starting the program the fonts will be copied to the font directory (Win95) or system directory (Win 3.1). It may or may not be necessary to install the fonts after this, using the Control Panel - Fonts utility. (Normally, you will not have to for Windows95, but probably will need to for first installations on Windows 3.1.) If two LUND fonts show up in other Word Processors font list, then the fonts are installed and will work in CFT-Win. However, if the Lund Fonts are not recognized by CFT-Win a warning message will be issued upon program startup. * Windows 95 OCX registration A change has been made in the way the two OCXs (Spell Check and ZIP Backup) are registered. These will now be auto-registered on your system on program startup, if they are not already registered. Thus if the need exists to obtain the additional SYSDLL files from the Web site, the files only need to be unzipped to the CFT-Win directory and the program will then auto-install when you next run the program. Hopefully, this makes it simpler. At the same time we try to avoid registering the fonts every time the program starts, as this will trigger some utilities (like Clean Sweep). * GEDCOM Import: NEW feature allows creation of an Error Log File (For details see GED Import Help). Fixed a bug in the import that did not retain the Living Flag properly. GEDCOM import of source notes fixed to properly import accented characters. Also a new warning window has been added when attempting to import a GEDCOM into a current database to explain the consequences of importing the file. Fixed a bug that didnt allow proper importing of GED files that are not left justified. * GEDCOM Export: GEDCOM export now shows months in dates all in CAPS. GEDCOM export also fixed to not include the words FROM or TO if the from or to date is missing. Also fixed a very rare bug which showed up in a GEDCOM file as @F######@ and was caused by a a corrupted number in the last (12th) FRN number of each spouse. * NEW Fix Gender utility added to Edit Menu. This will switch the Genders of the Key Individual and Spouse. * New Hispanic Surname: This option appends the mothers surname behind the fathers surname when a child is added. Check the option in the Database Configuration. * European Surname: Fixed a bug which did not carry the entire surname over when adding a child or father. * German Language updated. * Individual Editor: Fixed a bug which would not retain a given name change if the name was entered then an immediate remove of an event was done. Also fixed a bug in the insert couple event which sometimes would not connect event to spouse. * Document Report: Fixed a bug which would not print the document if the first line was blank. * Descendant Photo Report: Fixed a bug which caused the photo of the spouse of the first person to be carried over to a subsequent chart when there was no spouse for the first person of the subsequent chart. * Backup Error: Attempted to fix a problem in which the Backup would occasionally not overwrite an old file. This is a problem which does not occur all of the time for all people. Not certain that it has been totally fixed as the error cannot be reproduced. * Removed the Special item from Tools Menu. * Global Search: Fixed a bug which caused the program to abort if the search string included an accented character. Also fixed a cosmetic bug which said it was searching Misc Data when searching for event date or note. It actually works correctly. The message was simply wrong. * User Information: Fixed a bug which would not allow the accented character button to work. * Program Close after a minimize would not properly restore the CFT-Win window on next startup. This has been fixed. * Story Reports removed the reference of a marriage when no spouse is given. * Main Windows: fixed a bug which caused erroneous relationship connection when adding a spouse from the main window when the Key Individual had more than one spouse. ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J.
