Go to www.cf-software.com and then select the "Cumberland Family Tree for Windows" page from the menu on left. 2. Then go down to cftw230x.zip and download it to your computer. Normally all you do is click on the underlined link to cftw230x.zip and that will download it. 3. Using WinZip or PkUnzip unzip the file (cftw230x.zip) to a temporary folder. 4. Run INSTALL.EXE from the temporary folder. Tell it to simply install over top the old version - ie leave the directory as c:\cftw if that is where the current program is. Hope this helps. Please could you tell me how I can upgrade my program to the 2.30 version that I have seen discussed here? I only bought my 2.26X version six weeks ago!! (Please write s l o w l y - I don't speak technie very well!!) best wishes, Moira

Ah! How sweet it is! Sometimes you just download, unzip, install, and go merrily on your way (after a full backup, of course). Floyd E. Turner mailto:floydt@erinet.com

These two files are required as a pair - together. Simply copy them somewhere for safe keeping then after installing ver 2.30 copy them back. Basically, there have been some changes made to the German language that are not acceptable for some Germans. My current thinking is that I will have to restore the 2.29 translations. Hi Ira, Thanks for bringing out this new release. It's a pleasure again to work with this 'admin tool'. Now I don't have to take care of the back-up error code 160 anymore. This is perfect! Best regards, Ted Voordouw The Netherlands

Thanks Ira, downloaded and installed fine and solved zip backup problem. rgds Jens Fleinert

I don't know what you are doing. I don't know of a "page" or error that says anyone has two sets of parents. What do you mean when you say "puit the right John to John". I suspect you are talking about "connecting" them as Father and Son? Sorry. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. At 09:28 PM 5/8/98 +0000, you wrote: >I was just at CNET's Download.com and noticed the most recent version >of CFT they had was 2.27. How come they are behind? Because most of the locations (other than my own web site) can't keep up to date on all the software updates. So they expect me (the author) to keep them updated. Only problem is there are so many locations I would ahve to keep track of and upload to that I just don't have the time to do so. I try to keep a handful of locations updated (download.com is one of them) but I have been so busy lately that I haven't kept them updated. A number of locations still have 2.27 as I had not updated them since. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. Version 2.30 Improvements (Updated May 9, 1998) * Auto Backup Error 160 now fixed!! * LUND Font installation no longer auto-installed because of faulty installation on many machines. Now if not installed a message is generated explaining how to install them. * GEDCOM Import Problems: 1. A level 3 PAGE tag messed up subsequent line imports. 2. Blank line sometimes add to individual notes during import. Both of these fixed. * GEDCOM Export of a note with a blank line at top would drop the note. Now fixed. * GEDCOM Export Full Version Number of CFT-Win (ie 2.30) now added to header record. * Blank Individual and Event Note: A note with extra spaces or carriage returns (enter key) often shows up with an asterisk (*) indicating a note exists. Notes with only carriage returns and/or spaces will now be automatically emptied. * Date Calculator January and February of every 400 years (the years 1200, 1600, 2000) were displayed incorrectly by one week day. This is now fixed. * Insert Child would not include the slashes // around the surname of the child. Now fixed. * Edit Event GEDCOM tag (ie BIRT, DEAT) now displayed in title of edit event window. * Data Verification Bug Fixed: if blank date existed between two dates which were not in proper order the auto would not properly generate an Event out of Order warning. * Main Window coordinates: Minimum value changed from 0,0 to -2,-2. * New Icelandic Language Added. * Language Updates: Dutch, German. * Month Problem: Problem with some foreign month names such as Tou in Finish has been fixed. ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. Ira and all, Since some time the "basic" configuration of my computer includes a screen resolution of 800x600. Until recently I always used 640x480. When I start up CFT Win (2.29x) now, it does not fill my screen and when I click the (Win95) button to stretch it full screen, only the grey background stretches, but the program reamains the same size. Can anything be done about this? Regards, Ren Hasekamp
G'day Craig Just so that you don't feel that you've done something wrong. What you described happened to me too !! Now the bad news, I never did get it fixed. What I did as a 'work around' is to install the 16 bit (Win3) version of CFT. As far as I can tell I have full functionality and it has worked without problems for the past 3 months or so. I did write Ira about the problem but his difficulty is that IT DOES WORK for some people. The mystery of WINDOWS !! Cheers ...
