    1. ver 2.30X and Events - problems
    2. Rolf Carl
    3. Ira and all Some strange event happened to me when upgrading to 2.30x. Prehistoric: I have used Event REFN very much adding a number into the Misc data field. The No could look like this: 2F3A4C 5A6A. No other data was set in the General part of the event. On the source I've marked up a general source which I often quote. Sometime I also write a note. Now: Having installed 2.30x without troubles I started with a Rebuild Keyfields , UPPER PART check for all except Standard Events; LOWER PART check in Autosort dates and Correct Living flags 100 as my first task and now the task completely stopped by individual 453 - I could see a No like the abovementioned and the sec. part of the xxxx:453. So I had to shut down CFT ! Start CFT again and load the db and go to indv. 453. Looking at this person I could see that the NUMBER of the REFN - originated into the Misc now was placed into the DATE field! - which must have stopped the rebuild routine. After having corrected 15 of this kind I got through the problems. A comment: the fault was in a range from 453 to about 500 (Ind.no) and loaded into the db long time ago, probably in 2.26x. Later I installed 2.27x and continued entering data to the db. I also installed 2.29x but did not use it for entering data - just for looking and checking. I always end a version ie 2.26x with a Rebuild Keyfields and a report and I always start a new version with the very same routine. Have you any idea what could have caused this? Rgds Rolf

    1. Electing NOT to OVERWRITE
    2. Michael CALDER
    3. G'day Ira, There are times when I close the database that I DO NOT wish to overwrite (backup?) the last backup when the automatic backup occurs ( I do have automatic backup selected in the Database Configuration). I select "NO" in the "Overwrite?" dialogue box and ASSUME that this means that no back up has been made. Explorer would appear to confirm this. I do recall doing some similar operation (which I can no longer duplicate) when, after selecting the "NO" option I was presented with a dialogue that said that the "operation" had NOT been carried out. Could we please have a confirmation in future that when we select not to overwrite that a backup is not made and thus that our previous backup will not contain any errors we may have introduced in out last use of the database? BTW - As I understand it, every time I close my database (even by clicking the top right "X") I save a "new" version that is opened next time I access that database. Is this so? (Again according to my check with Explorer just then the answer is yes). I have just re-read what I have written and realise that what I want to be able to do is NOT to save the last evolution of the database into which I may have made changes that I then decide I do not want. This could happen if I have to close the database in a hurry and have not had time to go back and undo prior mistakes. Sorry to be so long-winded about it :-( HURU Mike

    1. Version 2.30 Glitches?
    2. Michael CALDER
    3. G'day Ira, Downloaded and installed 2.30x (32 bit) without any trouble directly over the top of 2.27 (I held off on 2.29 because there seemed to be a few glitches). Unfortunately there could be a few "new" ones in 2.30. I seem to have been a little hasty in deleting your announcement of the changes made in 2.30 so am unable to give you the relevant "quotes" 1. Regarding the addition of events and the "Add xxxxxx [XXXX] event...." dialog screen. When ever I add a new event (either insert or add) I get [BURI] instead of the relevant [XXXX]. No real problem as when one goes to look at or edit it later it shows the correct [XXXX]. Just thought you should know - or am I doing something wrong? 2. I know my 2.27 database was 100% correct according to Database Verification before the upgrade but since then I was told that I had about 25 people with "The order of events out of sequence" I did a Rebuild Key Files with "Auto Sort events" checked and the original list was reduced to 15. It would appear to be caused by persons with no known date of birth having a single (???) other event WITH a date. I have managed to "eliminate" some of the 15 by giving them a birth date. Never the less there is one who has both a birth date and a date for military service but no marriage date that is still listed. His wife (no dates of any sort) is not listed. Any thoughts on the matter? HURU Mike

    1. CFTW Uninstall & A3
    2. Warning: When installing CFTW 2.30 I made a mistake and installed it in the wrong subdirectory, so I thought I just run Uninstall to get rid of it and do the Install over again. Uninstall went alright, then it asked me in what Windowsgroup the program was installed so I answered 'Family Trees' (because here I have other related programs as well) and.... the complete Family Trees group was gone !! Completely deleted. (Fortunately I had a not too old copy of this one). After reinstalling in other subdir everything went OK again. Then I wanted to print, so I selected A3 size paper in Printer settings (HP-1100C), but on Page Settings I could only choose between US-letter and Euro-A4. Any chance that A3 size paper will be supported ? This all happened in Windows 3.1, running under OS/2 Warp4 Thanks and have a nice and quiet weekend, ---- Regards, Klaas L.
