You mention on the web page that you do not have to do the "vspell32.ocx" bit if you already have spell working in 2.x. My spell does work in 2.x and when I inadvertently tried to do the "vspell32.ocx" bit I got the ERROR message. BUT I have just tried a spell check in Beta3 and all works OK. HURU, Mike

Those >without the icons, can you verify? At my last "re-install" TX OCX was correctly registered and the Grey Screen has gone. Unfortunately, even after adding a couple on NEW notes and NEW media there were still NO icons. BTW - I normally install CFT in my E:\ drive (where both 2.9 and Beta3 again happily reside in different folders). In order to try an eliminate other possibilities I did in fact delete Beta3 from E:\ and re-install in C:\ but it made no difference. HURU, Mike

I have done that now and I now get the notes, but still no icons for notes, source, adoption. Tool bar icons are, of course, there I added some of my user added events and that straightens out some problems. Not being a programmer or a script writer, I don't understand the Story Sentence or Witness Story Sentence. (I'm going back through old messages to see if there are any clues). Is there a text that can give me some help on that? Ed Blakeley

A tag can be any letter, word, phrase, or code, up to 25 characters. It may or not be capitalized, and it may or may not be followed by a colon." "To make notes that will be printed when you print family group records, type an exclamation point as the first character in the note (or tag). Do not leave a space after the exclamation point. When you print family group notes, the exclamation point will not be printed." Almost every note of mine in PAF had an exclamation point in front of it. As I recall, the entire note to the end of the paragraph would be printed. Ed Blakeley Ed Blakeley

The docs being merged were all >in my CFT data base and were listed by document editor. Ahh - okay. I see what you are trying to do. That's not what a merge document does. The "Merge" in Documents works the same as the "Merge" in place name, misc data, etc - ie: It changes any references (source references) within all events and individuals to point to the Primary Document (rather than Secondary Document) and then deletes the Secondary. It does not try to combine the information of the secondary into the primary, any more than a secondary place name gets combined with the primary place name. 3. 1. Regarding the missing icons, they DO NOT show on my screen either. 2. The Global Search and Change Key Individual buttons are not functioning. They can be depressed by mouse click, however, the dialog doesn't open, making navigation difficult. These functions are also not available off the menu. 3. Also, not available off the menu are: Relationship Calendar, Database Verification, Rebuild Key Files. Page Setup, Printer Setup, Print Reports. RTF, HTML, etc. also not available from Publish. That's all for now. Hope Ira or the list can provide some help. I certainly don't want to download the beta yet another time! STEVEN J. 3. Ira, What I mean is the follow: In PAF you use an exclamation point (!) in your notes. So I have typed in all records with a note e.g. 1 NOTE ! 2. Michael Calder
    3. G'day , I am still trying to find the "icons" that should appear between MARR and SEX and so far have found NONE. I thought I would try to add some notes to the v 2.30 DB that I had opened in the BETA. Without looking at EVERY entry it would appear that ALL have an asterisk on the NOTES tab even when they have nothing AND those that did have Note SHOW nothing. As an example. In 2.30 - If I "edit" my Marriage entry it shows "Edit a [MARR] Event for Michael Calder" with a Note and a Source. In the same DB opened under Beta3 - If I "edit" my Marriage entry it just shows "Edit Event" and the Note is blank BUT the pane in which an entry would appear or be entered is all GREY, there is still a Source in the new layout. I have again checked and if I select someone who I know has NO Note it still shows an asterisk and a Grey page. In other words I CANNOT add a note to anyone in Beta3. Pictures available on request! :-) BTW - I now see the link between the Highlighted Individual -> KEY -> Family Group to move through the branches of the tree. I must admit that I was not aware of the ability to make other individuals the KEY via the "Tree ICON" -> Double Click (on individual) It was probably in the HELP file but I have missed it! Have just tried to find such a procedure but still cannot find it (but it is also very good)! HURU, Mike
