Thanks for fixing the DV bug. All seems A-OK. 2.31 is the new gold standard. Jon ______________________________ | | | EMQUAD International, Ltd. | | P.O. Ira, Registration of .ocx files were acknowledged as successful. 1. No icons visible between Marr and Sex columns on the Family Group page. 2. No icons on the Edit Individual window. 3. No 'Enter' or 'Cancel' icons for (i) Edit Individual/Select/ (a) Place Name (b) Misc. Data (ii) Edit Individual/Source/ (a) Attach Source/Select Source (b) Attach Document\Select Document 4. Some more Word Code errors (1-2010) in other areas of the program causing the program to hang. I like the Story Tab feature of clicking on other individuals, unfortunate not to be able to change the 'arrow'. Brian

I was messing around with this a bit today (in UCC) and have discovered that I can put the buttons there and it still work even with dialog boxes. Evidently it does not have to be MDI. So will be adding these in beta 2. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. I would still prefer the standard close button, but if this is not possible, could you move the "close door" icon to the upper right of the window so it would be in the same place as the standard close window button? These three buttons are normally reserved for what is called MDI (multiple document interface) like when you have multiple documents open in a word processor. But since they are in reality "dialog" boxes and not MDI windows I am not sure I can get those buttons on them. To make CFT-Win an MDI application it should allow multiple edit individuals (ie, edit a person and minimize, then edit another person and minimize - ending up with more than one person's edit window open at once). Same thing for Edit Event. It would require multiple event editors to be opened. In fact I did try doing something exactly like this for a while with the beginnings of Ver 3 and really spun my wheels for a fwe months. So many complications and I gave up and went back to the simpler SDI (Single Document Interface) where you can only have one window (document) open at a time - in essence these windows are all technically called "dialogs" rather than "document" windows. I know it is all computerese but don't know how else to explain all this mess. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. That would be fine. I suggest that we try to have "Ver 3" in the subject line of htese messages. BUT I have just tried a spell >check in Beta3 and all works OK. This does makes sense to me. In other words the vspell32.ocx is already registered with the system - as it was registered with Ver 2. So no need to re-register. Simply getting an error message when you tried to re-register indicates that it may not have figured out what files to use when you tried to re-register. But that never unregistered the fact that it was already registered. So all works fine anyway. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. Ian Fettes did send me some info indicating that the program was hunting for icons outside of the program. This started to make sense - but then that doesn't explain why some people can see icons and some can't. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. >Not being a programmer or a script writer, I don't understand the Story >Sentence or Witness Story Sentence. (I'm going back through old messages to >see if there are any clues). Is there a text that can give me some help on >that? Let's take a sample event. Let's use BAPM because it can include a misc data in addition to place and date. Story Sentence: %N was baptised %D p{at} %P m{by} %M. Witness Story Sentence: %W witnessed the baptism of %N d{on} %D p{at} %P m{by} %M. "%" indicates a replacable parameter. they get replaced by the actual data. %N = Name %P = Place %D = Date %M = Misc Data %W = witnessee name The brackets { } represent words that gets only included if a particular piece of data exists. For example: d{on} means that the word "on" will get printed only if a date exists. Some final example sentences from the above Story Sentence structure: Bill Smith was baptised on 23 Oct 1788 at London, England by Reverend Frank. Bill Smith was baptised. Bill Smith was baptised at London, England. Bill Smith was baptised on 23 Oct 1788. Bill SMith was baptised by Reverend Frank. The witness sentences are used only when a witness event is used. A witness event always refers to a secondary event. Here's some examples: John Smith witnessed the baptism of Bill Smith on 23 Oct 1788 at London, England by Reverend Frank. John Smith witnessed the baptism of Bill Smith. John Smith witnessed the baptism of Bill Smith on 23 Oct 1788. John Smith witnessed the baptism of Bill Smith at London, England by Reverend Frank. Almost all win95 programs conform to the standard window sizing and closing icons. CFTW should also conform. Regards Gale
Ira, Could you include the standard windows "close, minimize, and mazimize buttons" on some of the entry windows instead of just having the close door icon to close the window? It would be fine to have both, but I have become so accustomed to the standard Windows interface that it feels "unnatural" to not have these controls available. Thanks, Jeff mailto:jeff.murphy@worldnet.att.net

Okay, this says the problem is not limited to the "list" controls, but is a problem on buttons also. I wonder if there are some bugs in the version of Clarion (a new ver 4) that I used in CFT-Win 3. I'm still using the older Clarion 2 for CFT-Win 2. A new upgrade to Clarion 4 is due soon. Maybe we shall see some improvements. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J. I have just tried the Story tab, on a living person. This lists all the standard events including those with no data. Therefore there are entries for events which have yet occured, such as death and burial. Not too good when you show someone their record, and they are still alive. Regards Gale

Ira, I have noticed a few more minor bugs that will need fixing. 1. Like many others I have white space before the SEX column on the Family Group Screen and before the SURE column on the Individual Edit Screen. No sign of Icons for notes etc. There are similar white space areas in the windows for Edit Source and Detail and also in the edit windows for Place, Address, Misc. data & Documents. 2. Bookmarks cannot be activated by a double click. 3. Deleting an individual does not seem to delete any events for that person because the next new individual automatically gets the events for the deleted person. Each new individual is allocated the events of deleted individuals until all the deleted individuals are matched with new records. 4. When creating a new individual with no links the // are missing from the entry field. 5. The system is not automatically putting a space between the First name and the Surname as used to happen in previous releases I wonder, are these missing icons an add-on of some sort which you have not included in the release but which some users have on their systems already. Hope some of this helps. Regards Dave Bennett Birmingham England Home Page:- http:/ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/dave_bennett E-mail:- dave_bennett@compuserve.com
