    1. Ancestral Report Problem?
    2. Michael Calder
    3. G'day Ira, I have just printed out an Ancestral Report and have several occurrences of "double entries" as in this example:- The parents of Ann JONES are: 55 William JONES and Charlotte UNKNOWN were married. 56 Charlotte UNKNOWN and William JONES were married. Ann was born about 1833 at Nailsea, ENGLAND. Ann and Edward BROOM(E) (the son of Jacob BROOM and Mary PAIN (?)) were married 09 Jan 1855 at Nailsea, ENGLAND. Sometimes it is a "complete" double entry as shown above and at other times only one of the parties is mentioned for example "42 Elizabeth UNKNOWN." I do not seem to be able to find a positive indication as to why this should happen but it looks to occur when one or both of the parties are just names without dates of birth and/or date of marriage. I do not think I have bothered to print out an Ancestral Story before so maybe it is not something new. Version 2.31x - Win95 HURU, Mike

I do not like MS-Windows backup or MS-DOS backup as they are never compatible from one version to the next. If not using CFT-Win backup then I suggest simply copying or using WinZIP or some other ZIP campatible as other people can still unzip the data. 3. >I hesitate to offer my help with Hebrew. A daunting task - but boy, what a >challenge! >Do you see any need for it? I have had enough people ask for Hebrew that I would hope I can do this. The company that produces the Text OCX - that is used in Ver 3 notes - that allows for RTF (bold, underline, stuff like that) says that they are working on right to left capability. So perhaps we shall be lucky enough that by next year we can test this also. And yes, Yair, I had kept you in mind and would appreciate your testing and help with some of this when I get it ready. One problem is that Hebrew and Arabic (right to left languages) may end up being in notes only to start with - because of the problesm with things like NameSearch lookups, etc. But over the years perhaps I will get past all this also. The problem is not with TempleReady. It is in the marking routine. This should work properly. Perhaps there were people already marked in the database and you need to UNMARK ALL first before marking the ones you want. That is the most likely cause I can think of. 3. >Maybe I have overlooked, but is it possible to print a report without the >LDS ordinances. For some relatives I want to give a report without this. You mean is there a way to suppress the LDS events when printing a report. The only way is to mark them as "sensitive". And reports that will suppress "sensitive" events have a check so you can print or not print these events. Thus it would be a good idea to mark these as "sensitive" for each person. 1. Question regarding languages in CFTW 3.X
    2. Henning Krbye
    3. Hi Ira and all, A couple of CFT-users recently asked questions regarding foreign languages in CFTW. As I have several members of my family who do not understand the Danish language, I need to translate some of the notes to English and to store that version without overwriting the original Danish one. My idea is to make one indexed book in Danish and one in English just by changing the language and then make the program choose the right set of notes. I know that this means that I will have to maintain 2 sets of notes but it is a small price to pay for this option. Ira, could this be possible in CFTW 3.X? -And what do other users think? Best regards, Henning Kærbye kaerbye@post5.tele.dk

    3. >-the date field should be wider. The problem arises when one tries to insert >a date in the French Revolution Calendar (like "28 vendémiaire an XIII"). I think you are correct that CFT-Win Ver 2 won't allow proper entry of such dates. Could you enter the fll date in notes for now and in Ver 3 you'll find much better date capablities - including the UCC (Universal Calendar Calculator) which will convert between 10 different calendars (including French Republican and Gregorian.) You could download UCC or Ver 3 beta to check some of this out. >-there should be a possibility to give more than one Source for a given >event. Yes- Ver 3 will allow multiple sources. >Finally, I sometimes regret that the software is not fully translated (only >menu items, but not dialog boxes). I intend to allow Ver 3 capability to translate more - but it is always a big task for others - as well as difficult sometimes to always keep track of updates and changes in so many languages. But I will attempt a better method of doing this in Ver 3. >Finally, I made a personal wish : ... I would really appreciate a Linux/X-Window version of CFT. First off - I'm afraid I am totally ignorant on even what Linux/X-Windows is. Secondly, I am guessing that because I don't know it, it is a small market. Most people use Windows 95/NT and are following the Microsoft path (whether we really like it or not). To most people there is no other choice. So I feel I should stay where the market is. Thirdly, since I have done so much work on the program and write in a particular language (Clarion) that likely isn't compatible with Linux, I am not interested in learning a new programming language, nor writing and maintaining another version of CFT-Win. Sorry, but I see no reason at all to even think about this one. Ira ---------------------------------------------------------- Ira J.
