    3. On Tue, 06 Mar 2001 I read >CFTW just gets better and better and better, and V3.06 is no exception. >Thank you very much for all the effort you put into producing a truly >excellent genealogical program. I feel sure that all readers of this list can agree to that. But why are we Users of CFTW then so few and why is CFTW so little known by the genealogy public in general. I often see listings, surveys, mailings and articles about genealogy programs where CFTW is not even mentioned. Programs, which in my opinion are much inferior, get a lot more publicity, and they have more Users. Let us all make some efforts to promote our good program. - show it to all our friends, - demonstrate it at meetings in our associations, - write articles about it in our genealogical magazines, - publish it on some of the free CD-roms added to PC magazines. Let us all do our best and let us raise many new Users each of us. When we succeed in that, we may allow ourselves to say that the program we like is also worthy to be called the best. Erik

I must comment here. As an American, I will define what price leader means in my opinion. Being a price leader means being able to supply the best product at the lowest or most affordable price. Being an expensive product never means being the best. Many have learned that the hard way, finding out latter they could have bought better for a fraction of the cost that they paid. What originally attracted me to CFT is the fact that there was a trial period with no cost. Then secondly, the price was affordable. The fact that I have teenagers living at home who have quite the appetite makes me look closely at prices...lol. I would be willing to pay a bit more but may have turned away if doubled. I'm glad Ira said he will remain at the same price. I hope this is not straying to far from what we are supposed to be discussing here. Dawn Conner-Jeppesen

    3. Ira, I have enjoyed working with your CFT programs V1 and V2 for years and the only reason I havn't yet upgraded to V3 is lack of time (I felt I couldn't take the risk of having to spend hours just repairing damages or work around bugs resulting from using a complete rewrite as V3). Based on all the input to this list - from all the enthusiasic users worldwide and from yourself - I am now convinced that I should also upgrade and get all the benefits of the worlds best. In your continuing upgrading process I agree with your giving priority to fixing bugs over adding new facilities. My upgrade order is forthcoming, and I will start with V3.07. I just looked at the price for this, I think your price it too low! If your product is the best, you should also be the price leader (this I learned when I worked for GE in your country in the sixties, and I am sure its still true). Double it up! Jens E. If your product is the >best, you should also be the price leader (this I learned when I worked for >GE in your country in the sixties, and I am sure its still true). Double it >up! You might be correct. However, "best" is subjective. I do get some trial-users occaissionally who tell me it is not a very good program. I also hate to cut off people who want to use the program but can't afford the price. But one thing I am convinced of is that lower the price would not increase my sales. Since PAF is free, those who won't pay $45 wouldn't even pay $10, either. I think I'll just leave things as they are (pricewise). 1. [CFTW] V 3.06 Connect Bug
    2. Ira J Lund
    3. There is a bug that got introduced in 3.06 (wasn't in earlier versions) which occurs when you try to "connect" two single people together. It shows both with a marriage (a 1 inthe Marr column) but won't show them as husband and wife. The temporary workaround until Ver 3.07: If you make one of these individuals the "Key Indivdiual" then add a child to them (without a spouse). Make it a temporary dummy child that you will remove later. Now "connect" the other person as a spouse and then delete the dummy child. This will do it for now. Nasty little bug that I hate to see. How to get rid of the flaky stuff (1 in Marr column - bad marriages that don't show up properly)? Before connecting as suggested above - please run the Rebuild. Sorry for this nasty little bug. Sure, the "commercial" packages may have lots of fancy bells and whistles, but when it comes to getting the job done they all fall down - none of them come anywhere close to CFTW. And having direct e-mail contact with you is a tremendous asset, one which I greatly appreciate, and I'm sure all the users would agree. > >Don't be down hearted, Ira! The fact that the wish list is large is simply an indication that the majority of your users are very enthusiastic and excited about the product, and are eager to submit new ideas. Most of the ideas being submitted now are for 'nice to have' features, all building on a solid foundation. And that is a very healthy state of affairs. In my opinion, CFTW in its present state is a very mature and stable product. Thank you for your kindness. I try for the most part not to get discourage. But every now and then I wonder why I am still doing this. Then I go take a look at other programs and can't bring myself to move my data over. Nothing works for me like CFT-Win. I guess as I long as I still want CFT-Win for my genealogy, I'll have to keep it up.
