When one runs the 3.07 [3.06xx?] upgrade file. It first asks about dictionaries. All the boxes on the left screen are checked by the program, implying in my mind that all the checked dictionaries will load. However, if one unchecks the box one gets the aux dict, if one leaves all the boxes checked, no aux dict loads. This seems backwards to me, so perhaps some instructions could be added to the dict upgrade screen to explain what the program wants. I really like the new selection list icon display, very useful. Mike
I've been using the software for some time now and been subscribed here for couple of months. >From what I've seen so far, isn't a version 4.0 about to roll-out soon? The wish list must be long enough to provide a dramatic change with a lot of enhancements. Is it in the works? -Alon.
I downloaded the 3.07 upgrade file. When the upgrade started it first asked about dictionaries?, and since I only work in French and English, I 'unchecked' all the boxes but those two on the left window. When I clicked on continue the program proceeded to spend about 10 minutes 'updating'? languages I dont use. After about 12 minutes I stopped the process, and thought I had stopped the upgrade. What's going on? I don't want valuable memory space used to store a collection of languages of the world I will never use. How do I keep just french and english and the other stuff out of memory.. Why do I need a dictionary I don't use in this program anyway? It didn't do this when I started up 3.05 so I was not expecting this 'enhancement' Even though I interrupted the dictionary thing, I still got some sort of upgrade. It says 3.06x ?? Mike
Thank you Harald, it's so simple when you find someone who knows what they are talking about, isn't it. The TARGET=_top does exactly what I wanted - it was in my reference book too, I just hadn't found it. Editing all my fam000xx pages is not a real problem, it's only a small database and I've edited each page a few times already - once more won't kill me! Thanks again Harald for your prompt and helpful response and thanks also to the list for facilitating this. Alan Plato
Mr. Alan. I am interested. Did you really rename all the fam000xxx files. I addede a search engine to my page and it returns at searching a name all the indexes and pages where the searched-for name is includde , which is not elegant. But renaming a thousand entries is quite laboursome. I used an engine: Virtime search. Look at my amateur website to see how it works: http://home.planet.nl/~kajeka Greetings K.J.Kombrink. As to this one, it was a case of something being corrupted. Interestingly I copied the idividual files from my "correct" copy on the laptop .. and the error was still there .. when I copied the entire folder over it disappeared .. anyway up and working great now. When the re-ordering takes place those standard events without a date get attached to the event that used to preceed it before re-ordering ?? Therefore the way the re-ordering takes place would not allow for you to set the order for events, such as Birth, Marriage, Death, Burial?? In my instance say I have the following in my Individuals Standard Events: Birth 1900, Marriage (no date), Death 1950, Burial 1951. After sorting the order ends up Birth 1900, Death 1950, Burial 1951, Marriage (no date). My idea would be to have a set up where you can re-order the entire databases Individual Events in an order you stipulate. ie: Birth, Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, Divorce, Death, Burial, so that whatever the dates .. the order will always be logical. Many thanks Hugo
Thanks Ira .. that is sorted !! Hugo | >I do not know if it is related but only half the ancestral tree shows up in | >the 6 generation section. You can go | Option menu - Program Configuration and first tab reset the Number of | Generations in Ancestral Tree to be 5 instead of 6. Sometimes the rebuild process creates many (6 to 8) copied multiple marriage events for persons with more than one marriage. Was this bug fixed or is it still on the wish list?

If I understand you correctly, you could add a TARGET="_top" in the link with the icon to the index-page. This will make sure that you allways get a whole page after clicking on an icon... This will however require that you edit all your familyxxx-pages. If you like javascript (and can live with the fact that some people use browsers that can not (or with users that disable it) use javascript) it is possible to check if your page is loaded within another page (and hence "break out" of this recursive frame-stuff if necesarry) Hope this helps! 're-target' the link depending on how the viewer had got to the page; but I don't seem to be able to find a way to bend HTML to my will in the same way. Are there any experts out there who could gently point me in the right direction? Any help at all would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your tolerance. Alan Plato
I think the problem relates to the specific entry field that Hugo is using. When entering at the event level a new place name directly in the Edit Event Place field, it provides a scrolling text entry box that certainly can handle a lot of characters, I guess the 250 Ira has stated. However, if an entry is made through the Add place name button on the Select Place Name screen called by the Place button on the Edit Event screen, this is a fixed two line entry field. Depending on the combination of upper and lower case characters, a user will be only able to enter about 100 characters. The same result happens when called from the Edit Place Name screen called from the main drop down menu Place name Editor (or Ctrl+P shortcut). hi all: If I may, could I ask for the following for the "wish list": on the database verification, could it check: child born after death of mother child born before either parent is 13 (already checks prior to marriage date, but not age of parent) bad dates: e.g., 31 Sep 1943 29 Feb 1905 yes: I had all of the above in my database but didn't realize this.
