When you are in the Fields Window, the "Types" are blank, Special or Event. Are you sure that if you highlight the 3rd field, that the type shown is not 'blank". I really don't think there is a bug there. I'll almost bet that the 3rd line has been set to "blank". Ira ------------------------------------------------ Mr. Ira J. 3. There's obviously something I'm not understanding here. In Windows programs, if you click on the Scroll Bar and pull it downward, it should still take only a fraction of a second. How about holding down the CTRL key and hitting the END key? That should take you to the bottom of the document. 2. Except that I haven't tried the viewer in a long time and it was working since then and until recently. Have already downloaded the full version of 3.07, uninstalled the incremental one and installed the whole thing over. Same problem - no buttons. Also noticed that the startup screen did not want to recognise any of the databases even though these all live in c:\cftw3 directory. Had to use Browse to find them and open. After I use browse to open a database it again appears in the startup screen. Thanks for trying. David Voss Harvey.Nimmo wrote: > I think this happens when you activate the CFTW 'Viewer'. 3. I don't know if this is related but in the Decendant list [style2] report, the 3rd line of the fields is no longer visible in the 'example' window and therefore not editable, so it stays on the marriage data I last programmed into it. Just another little bug I guess, would downloading another copy of the program make any difference? 3. Hi there Ron, I saw Ira's answer but not sure if it answered your question. As I see it .. it was "Is there any way to see what info has been up dated ?" When you merge you can save a document as detailed at the bottom of the merge window (Make sure you save it where you can find it !!). This ends up giving you ALL the new people entered at the top (which you can delete) .. and at the bottom a list of all the matched people. This will consist of the two database names ONLY, IF there are no new details. This is the only place that a change of name is recorded, so look through it for that first. I then delete all the entries where the names are the same and there are no details. All that then remain are names that have changed, or entries where detail has changed. This should provide you with your answer. The ONLY stumbling block is if there is the slightest difference between the details, (like Birth : London in one and London, UK in the other .. then this shows up.) So a recommendation would be to agree on a standard before merging. I hope this has been of some help. Hugo [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Parry" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2001 2:27 PM Subject: [CFTW] Can anyone help? | 1. I am doing research with a family member who lives in Australia and we | wish to merge files so we can keep a 'master' file. When we merge 2 files | however, we find that the merge report lists every IPN name - some many | hundreds. This means that the report is so very long and really all we wish | to know are those IPNs where there is a difference between the 2 files so we | can decide which is the correct entry and edit it accordingly. | Ira has responded that he intended it that way so he could check every IPN | entry. However I wonder if anyone has found a way around this. It might be | useful to have that function switchable so that either a full report is | produced or a report with only the file differences listed.

    3. Oh for sure, that works, if you don't mind holding a mouse key down for ~5 minutes while it scrolls thru. I just thought someone knew how to mark two points in the file and delete everything in between, instead of a tedious scroll and cut. Mike At 23:41 01/06/01 +0200, Hugo Slater wrote: >Yes ...
