    1. [CFTW] Viruses and Subscribing to the VIRUS-DISCUSSION Mailing List
    2. LISTOWNER
    3. May I suggest that everyone on these Lists subscribe to the VIRUS-DISCUSSION Mailing List and keep up to date on all the latest news concerning computer infections, e.g., Viruses, Worms, Trojans, etc.? It doesn't matter if your system has ever been infected or not -- these days, with new infections coming out almost every day, every computer user MUST remain vigilant and ensure that he/she doesn't become infected, thereby passing on these dastardly things to others. It won't cost you any money to join the VIRUS-DISCUSSION List, but it might save you some money if your system is trashed and you have to pay a computer expert to get it right again. Plus, in just about all cases when one's computer has to be "fixed" by a repairman, you lose valuable files. It's your choice. Keep abreast of what is happening in the virus world and learn how to REALLY protect your computer, or stand the chance of disaster. And, for any of you who do NOT use an Anti-Virus (AV) program, or, if you DO have one, but don't keep it updated at least twice weekly with the latest virus definition files, you risk losing your system and all your valuable data files; more importantly, you risk getting an infection and then spreading it to thousands and thousands of other users. To subscribe, send to: [email protected] Subject: SUBSCRIBE Regards, SgtGeorge George W. Durman

    3. I downloaded ctree 3.2 trial version in 1995 and keyed in my available family data (approx. 300 persons). I found this DOS program very good and decided to buy a licence. Unfortunately, owing to a number of close family bereavements within a very short time in 1995 my interest was interrupted and the program and its files lay unused and I never ordered the licence. Now, I wish to start again but many of my original paper sources have disappeared, leaving my only complete sources in the ctree 3.2 trial version. I would like to purchace a ctree or CFT licence, but I want to be sure that the new program can re-use the datafiles from the old ctree 3.2 trial version. My suggestion has always been not to delete any languages when prompted to do so. It takes time for the program to go through every record of all the word lists and remove them. I would suspect that deleting any language is more of a cause of problems mentioned than leaving everything alone. Ira ------------------------------------------------ Mr. Ira J. 3. Hi, A similar thing happened to me in 3.07! I reindexed and after that, one of my descendants lists had lost 400 of its 1250 individuals. It appeared one of the couples had lost their 5 generations of offspring. So I had to reconnect them to their 11 children again manually. Luckily the offspring were so many and I knew what I had before! So, this is not really an old version problem, I would suspect... Cheers, Aida. 2. Greetings everyone, I'm still using version 2.32x for windows 95. I had not done much with my data for several years but this past month I have been working on it a lot. I have been reluctant to upgrade because I prefer to enter blanks in my reports, such as the story report. This allows family members to see just which information is lacking and also gives them the opportunity to suppply some of it. I use "_______?" for a missing name (first last and middle), "_____ / _____ Co / St __ / Country _________" for a missing place, "site _______________" for a missing misc, and "__-___-____" for missing dates. 2. Christian Perrier
    3. Hello Ira and others, I have here a database which grew up to around 4800 individuals.... From time to time, I have problems when either making "big" imports (GEDCOM imports) or connecting two existing individuals. For instance, if I want to "marry" two existing individuals by using the standard method for doing so (+Conn/Connect a Spouse), both individuals get a new "marriage" '1/1 on the left of their name), but they are not shown together. I can add a marriage event to both, but no story shows up then.... If I make an index rebuild, individuals are disconnected again.....(sometimes this has corrected the problem, though). Then, the only way to connect them is by adding a new spouse to one of them and then merge this new individual with the real spouse.... On the other hand, I sometimes find couples who have "lost" their children (I make index rebuild quite often, thus cannot tell when it really happened). What can I do? Do you, Ira, have additionnal tools for checking database integrity (and should then I send you a zipped versionof my database?) What if I make a full GEDCOM export then import? What would I lose then? --

    1. RE: [CFTW] Adding child born out of Wedlock
    2. John G Slee
    3. This is how I do this, but there may be a more correct way. You need an extra "No-Spouse Marriage". If you have already attached husband(s), add an extra one without bothering about a name, and select this marriage. Add the child born before the first real marriage and then delete the false husband. You then have a child attached to a No-Spouse Marriage rather than either of the other husbands. I already have the mother's two later marriages, but yesterday I found a child born before she got married. How can I put this in without the child being credited to one of the husbands ? Thanks !
