    1. [CFTW] Deleting Blank Records
    2. doug
    3. I am cleaning up my data base (CFTW ver. 3.07) and have encountered a number of blank records that I can find no way to delete. They appear at the beginning of the name search list with a blank for the name and an IRN. When I do an IRN search, I get the message "The entered IRN is not in the database." The database structure report lists these IRN's as unconnected and with "//" in the name field. Nothing I've tried to eliminate them has worked. Any ideas? Thanks, doug brown _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

Whenever you see this what is happening internally in the database is that there has been some "empty" photo slots created ahead of the first photo you see for that person. The display picks up the empty slot instead of the real first photo. To fix it for now, do the following: Highlight the first photo in list on "selected" photos. Now press the UP button at top toolbar several times. This will cause it to move up above the empty slots, even though it doesn't look like anything happened. Click on the General tab to see if the photo shows. If not click the up a few more times. This should take care of it (temporarily until I fix it). I will likely add to the Rebuild to remove the empty slots and possibly something on the Media Tab to help avoid this again. Ira ------------------------------------------------ Mr. Ira J. When you go to Selection Lists from the "Tools" Menu you will see all types. When you go to the Selection Lists from within the "Reports" you will only be allowed to select the particular type of list that the report needs to generate the particular report selected. Example: If you are generating an Individual List you can only get Individual Selection Lists as the other lists are invalid for this report. 3. Thank you! The images now show up in the list, but I'm having one more problem with the pictures :( I read in the manual that the first picture added to the "selected" images list for each individual is the picture that will show up as a thumbnail on the main window of the program and also be on the exported webpage beside that individual's name. I added an image to the list and went back to the main window and now there is a white rectangular box in the corner of the main program - but no picture. There is also an icon of a camera beside the name of that individual. I went to export to html to see if the picture would show up on the webpage(I checked all options to include pictures, albums, all records, etc). Beside the person's name on the exported webpage is a broken image placeholder, but no image. I checked the directory where it copied the html pages to and the program had copied the image to the same directory. The image was a jpg standard encoded(not progressive) and I also tried a gif. Neither worked. Any ideas? Thank you. -----Original Message----- From: Ira J Lund [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, September 24, 2001 8:15 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [CFTW] media problem At 09:01 PM 9/23/01 -0400, you wrote: >When I go to edit an individual and click on the media tab, choose get >media file, choose an image (or any media), the program asks "Copy these >files to the Database Image Directory?" Let me walk you through the proper process. First you need to create a folder where you are going to place all your Media files - such as c:\cftw34\photos. Now you scan or copy all your photos to this folder. Next inside the program go to Option Menu - Database Configuration - Database 1 Tab and click on the Media button. Set this to the folder you created (c:\cftw3\photos). The simply tells the database where you have placed all your images. Now when you edit a person and click on the Media tab, you will see the list of images available on the top. The "Get Media" button should be rarely used (in fact it is confusing to people as you see here). It is used in a case where you now discover that there is a photo somewhere else on your disk and wished it were in c:\cftw3\photos. You click that button, find the file and it simply copies it to c:\cftw3\photos. The hang occurs because the program is confused since the Media folder has not been set (as described in first paragraph) and thus the hang. I assume that this is to select a report, but the box is empty. So how do I generate the report? Looking at the help file, I find: "The Print Report Window allows the selection of all options for every report. Options will change depending on the particular report you select from the report list. All reports will have a field for the title and beginning page number of that report." Am I missing a key procedure, or do I have a missing file ? Thank You Harry

    3. The thing you might want to look for is scaling and that should be supported by your printer driver ... That way you could scale up any page to as much as A0 and let the printer do the job! Worked fine with our HP plotter - A0 on a roll I printed an exported GED file with the help of GenoPro and got a nice big family tree on 6 pages .... So what to do with cft? In my genealogy, I do not show this godparent relationship, > although with such an intimate connection between the child and godparents, > it sure makes one wonder. In my database, I show godparents (all are catholic) as "witnesses" of the Baptism when they are already in the database because they are related in some way. This allows to narrow searches for the death date of these people. Conecting them as "other parents" would maybe lead to some misunderstanding, thus I prefer avoid this.

    3. Is there a way of setting different page sizes, apart from A4 & US Letter in CFT yet? Every six months or so I download the latest version of CFT and have a play around - I'm really waiting for it to support different page sizes before I buy a copy, and I haven't seen it supported yet. I can print to a whole range of different printers at work and it would be really handy to be able to print on A3, or be able to make up custom page sizes so I can print to one of our plotters or large-format printers... ideal for taking a family tree to family get-togethers. So has anyone solved this problem, or knows how to add custom page sizes? Murray Woolnough --
