Ira, I did a [rebuild] of my database followed by [unused records]. It indicated that 355 source records were no longer in use. Not what I expected. Anyway, maybe some problem was resolved in the database. But now when I add a source reference to an event, do a rebuild, then the source record is no longer attached to the event. Do you need my database (30.000 individuals) to reenact ? Using CFT 4.09 regards, Hans de Haan Wolvega, The Netherlands
Gavin, Tryk to re-index your database, that should do the trick. Hi, I can only suggest that you search through the entries under the Source tab (pink book near blue question mark) at top of the screen and edit the entries with the strange characters. I take it that you did not notice these when you created records. I would have thought that you must have had some form of file corruption. Rebuilding the indexes or database would not clear records that have somehow been corrupted. Hi Henning, I think it is the Defender program. I think it eventually learns what is ok. Anyway, glad all is going ok for you. Based on questions I have gotten over time, I think I need to clarify some things about the best ways to upgrade CFT. 1. When UPGRADING TO THE LATEST VERSION FROM AN EARLIER VERSION 4 the ZIP file is likely the best way to upgrade. In the case of v4.07 you simply need to download the ZIP and copy the enclosed 3 files over top the old copies of these files. Usually it is only cftw.exe that needs to be updated, but in the case there are 3 files to be updated. However, if you are using a language other than English, then this could wipe out any translations that you may have made - if you made them. For many years, the two language files (stdevent.tps and ucc.tps) had "new" in the name and CFT would validate the new against the old allowing you to update with your own translations. But due to issues with later Window versions not allowing CFT to make file name changes, I bypassed this by not including "new" in the new file name. If you do want to keep your own translation then the way to upgrade is to extract stdevent.tps and ucc.tps to a temporary folder, then rename them as stdeventnew.tps and uccnew.tps before copying to the CFT v4 folder. Then when you first run the new version CFT will prompt you about languages. I know it sounds a bit complicated, but if you have troubles with this let me know. 2. When UPGRADING FROM CFT VERSION 3. If I had been smarter I think I would have made all installations install to a folder with the version included (such as c:\CFT3 & c:\CFT4) and then also include the version in the shortcut. Instead I have to recommend to people to install version 4 into a different folder than version 3 is installed. Then one should rename the shortcuts to so you know which shortcut runs ver 3 and which runs ver 4. This way one could keep both versions on their computer. I will look into adding the version on installation folder and shortcut in the future. In any case you are always welcome to send in your questions or issues. Thanks, Ira -- Cumberland Family Software www.cft-win.com
