Hi again. For reasons that I haven't a clue about, I've decided to some more research on Yuba & Sutter county Ryans (up to the early 1900s). So, anyone who is interested is officially invited to join my web site: http://RyanYubaCounty.MyHeritage.com I've already found several "groups" of them at both the local Catholic cemeteries, but I'm sure someone out there has some clues that would really move things along. Also, some of the markers are very difficult to read. Appreciate some hints. I pass through the Marysville, and Linda areas twice a day along my work commute route. Makes one ponder. The Ramney (sp?) Index contains information on family and community events covered by publications within the Room. Additionally, the local genealogy web site gives very interesting information regarding burials in St Joseph Cemetery (http://www.yubaroots.com/deaths/di-ro.htm); please respect the Copyright restrictions given on the home page. A quick check gave the following information: Ryan, Mrs Elizabeth; Nov 9, 1915 Appeal-Democrat Newspaper Death at Mayfield, Native of Ireland, age 88 Former Resident of Marysville, to California 1863 Ryan, Joseph; May 6 1874 Appeal-Democrat Newspaper Found dead Ryan, Joseph; June 30 1875, page 2 Appeal-Democrat Newspaper Age 34 years, resident of Linda (Yuba County) Ryan, Joseph; July 11 1890, page 2 Appeal-Democrat Newspaper In Marysville, July 10, Native of California; age 18 Sarah Costello; Feb 10 1939, page 3 Appeal-Democrat Newspaper Covered wagon pioneer of Yuba County; Family and personal history A quick review of the microfilm for Feb 10 1939 (page 3) of the Appeal-Democrat: "Former Resident Taken by Death Mrs. Sarah Costello, formerly of Marysville, died at her home in San Francisco January 26, according to belated information reaching here. She was a covered wagon pioneer, and one of the few remaining persons who came to the state in that manner. She came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ryan, in the sixties, before the completion of the railroad, the family locating in Marysville in 1863. She had resided at the bay for many years. The Costellos lived in Linda district for awhile before moving into the city. Mike Costello was a carpenter and helped build a number of the structures still standing in this city A daughter, Mrs. Josephine Carney, worked in the Fair store for a long time before her marriage. Deceased is survived my her husband and the following children: Mrs. Elizabeth O'Brien, Mrs. Daniel Costello, Mrs. Josephine Carney, Mrs. Genevieve Engels, Sister Mary Jerome, O.P., Sister Loretto Julie, S. N. D., and the late Mrs. Alice Kleveselli. Eleven grandchildren also survive her." Also interesting is that Mike Costello was not present in the Ramney Index; perhaps he also died in San Francisco (San Francisco County); a number of Ryans are buried at St Joseph's Cemetery, but I do not see Michael. If you are interested in a scan of the obituary contact me at sc_shepard@hotmail.com; scshepard@comcast.net Good luck. -----Original Message----- From: camendoc-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:camendoc-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, May 25, 2008 6:00 PM To: CAMENDOC-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CAMENDOC] McDonald/Ryan This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I am interested in the Ryan famiily in Yuba County. Mary was one of four children of Joseph Ryan and Elizabth Cleary, who immigrated from IL about 1865 and homesteaded in 1869. Their only surving daughter, Sarah Jane married Michael Costello (my gr-grandparents) Their marriage is listed in the "Ryan family records" at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marysviile. I have not been able to connect these Ryans with the other Ryans in Yuba County. Perhaps you can help Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
