Posted on: Yuba County, California Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Yuba?read=380 Surname: Scovill, Scoville, Scovel, Scoval ------------------------- Hi Gilbert, Saw your post in the Yuba County California forum and had to email you because it is very likely we are related in some way. If your Scovill family was in America before 1700 that we are most likely cousins, albeit distant, but definitely related. My ancestor, John Scoville, came to the colonies circa 1660/61, he married Sarah Ann Barnes in Connecticut. John's brother, Arthur, came to the colonies about two years later. Between the two of them they tried to populate the entire country. My gg-grandmother was Lucy Evelyn Scovil, daughter of Benjamin and Rebecca Tourgee Scovil. Lucy married Obediah Martin in Putnam County Ohio circa 1840's. Are you pursuing the Scovil family at this time? If you have not found those special roots which were planted in the colonies circa 1660/61 then I can recommend a book that may be helpful, 'Scovils in England and America' by Homer Worthington Brainard. I have Roger M. Scovil's book in my own collection and could let you know how to contact him if you are interested. Good luck in your hunting forebearers, Jean Lee
