In about 1855, John Rule, along with his family, arrived in Brown's Valley, Yuba CA. He was originally from Cornwall, Eng. He arrived in Pennsylvania, about 1841, with his brother, James & Edward. They were miners. By 1843, they were in Madison Co., MO, where John met and married Elizabeth Craddock, in 1844. They moved to Wisconsin in 1846. In the spring of 1852, they moved to Volcano, CA. In 1853 they moved to Grass Valley. Then, in 1855, to Browns Valley, where he also took up hotel keeping. About 1859, Elizabeth Craddock's father, Thomas Elmore Craddock (b 1781), along with some of his grown children & their children, arrived in Yuba Co. They were Caleb Craddock, Edward Craddock, Margaret Craddock Johnson & her children. Margaret was the widow of Thomas Johnson, who was also a miner from Cornwall. In 1866, John Rule purchased a ranch/farm in Sonoma Co. He also operated a saw mill. In early 1870, while traveling to Nevada, John died, and is buried in Grass Valley in the Miners Cemetery. He has a headstone, however, in the family plot in Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery in Sonoma Co. Thomas Elmore Craddock died on Feb 22,1869, and is buried in Brown's Valley Cemetery in Yuba Co. Margaret Craddock Johnson died June 1895, in Sacramento Co., CA. One of her daughters, Jane, married Jacob Grandstaff in 1860 in Sutter Co. Another child of hers, Thomas Taylor Johnson, married unknown, had two daughters, Iola and Viola, and died in a mining accident in Siskiyou Co. Another daughter, Emma Johnson, married Nelson Silsby in Sacramento. Edmond Craddock is found on the Great Register of Sonoma Co, as a rancher in Salt Point Twp. Caleb Cox Craddock is found on the Great Register of Sonoma Co., as a farmer in Ocean Twp. I've also found that he died Jan 10, 1906 in Sonoma Co. I would love it if anyone had any more information on any of these folks! Barbara Craddock Pike
