Quite a few of the Cemeteries in Yuba and Sutter Co. are online. Some are searchable and some will do lookups. http://www.rootsweb.com/~cayuba/cemetery/ or http://www.rootsweb.com/~casutter/cemetery/ Just a note. Yuba and Sutter counties are so close together. I have several relatives that died in Marysville which is in Sutter Co. and they are buried in Yuba Co. in Yuba City and vice versa. Happy Hunting! Posted on: Yuba County, California Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Yuba/391 Surname: Spence, Clements ------------------------- Hello, I don't have too much info to go on. Emmer Spence (as it was spelled on her death certificate) was born in Mammoth Spring Ark. 1884. Her fathers name was Amon Spence (spelled Amoen) on death certificate. Emmer Spence and Jesse Clements moved from the Ark. Oklahoma area somewhere around 1915 and into the Yuba Co. Shasta, Redding, Wheatland area around 1920? Her son Newton Amon Clements is buried somewhere in Yuba, Co. And so is Amon Spence (Emmer's father). After her husband Jesse Clements passed away in 1961, she moved to Nevada with a daughter. I have been told that Jesse Clements ran a gas station in Wheatland for several years. Some Clements/Spence relatives are still living in this area. Emmer Spence was my gr. grandmother. I am looking for any information about this family. Emmer's siblings were named Ivy, May, William, Andrew, Charles (Charlie), Stella. I found record of these siblings in Hon Township Clark Co. Arkansas 1910 census. Her mother's name was Nancy? She seems to be very elusive. I have not been able to find anymore information other than what I have here. All help would be greatly appreciated! Chris

MARYSVILLE MARRIAGE RECORDS 1851-1857 MIDDLETON,W.F. to NANCY J. FARLEY MAY 13,1855 by WM. L. JONES,J.P. Jean Carr [email protected]
My Lofton line was originally from Cabarrus Co, NC, then Washington Co, IN, Hancock Co, IL, and then to Yuba Co, CA. Yes, Frances R. Lofton was mining at one time but I'm not sure where in CA it was. I've been told his grandchildren were born in El Dorado Co. Their father, William Harding, was in CA, mining or panning on the Consummes River, El Dorado Co, on the 1850 census. Not sure about the Middletons. My earliest, Lorel Middleton, was born in CA 13 July 1884. His mother's maiden name was ROSE. He married Letha Matilda Creps, daughter of William Creps and Matilda Lofton. I've never heard of Pleasant Fouts. Hope this helps. Bea << Were your Loftons or Middletons ever in Missouri at any time? Were they ever miners at the Deer Creek Mine in Yuba County during the Gold Rush years, perhaps in the company of a man named Pleasant Fouts? Thanks, Jan >>
Not sure if any of them are online. I happen to have the book of the 1880 voter registrations for Yuba Co. Sorry I made it more confusing. Rosemary
Rosemary, Thanks for the information - now I am more confused than ever! I have a James William O'Brien from Placerville born 1853, whose father immigrated from Ireland He supposedly lived in Marysville sometime during his life, but I don't know when or how long, nor do I know his father's name. In addition, I have another, seemingly unrelated James O'Brien who should be a generation older that practiced medicine in Butte County, and was from Iowa. So one of these names you gave me could be related or one of the O'Brien's I was looking for.... On another note, are you familiar with where I can look at other voter registrations for California - for example are some on line? Thanks for your help, always appreciate the information! Howdy all! I'm sending this to two lists (Yuba Co and Goldrush)in the hopes that I will locate information on James William O'BRIEN's origins and family. I believe this relative was born Placerville, El Dorado County, California about abt. 1853. His father was James W. O'BRIEN from Ireland, and his mother was ? GEHEGAN from Kentucky. He married Sarah T WOODWARD from Marysville probably before 1888. James was a telegraph operator and the family lived in Nevada for a period of time, before returning to Oakland, California around 1920s. As I recall, someone was working on an O'BRIEN family from one of these lists. If anyone is still working on them and this James W O'Brien sounds familiar, I would really love to hear from you! Thanks, Camilla Barror <[email protected]>

There was also Bill Hammon Toyota/Lincoln/Mercury that just sold out about 3 years ago in Yuba City as well. Maybe there is a connection for you there.
