Posted on: Yuba County, California Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Yuba/443 Surname: Adams Brown Coe ------------------------- As an additional item of interest, my father, Robert Coe has a letter written to his grandmother, Blanche Brown from relatives in New York, aparently in response to her letter seeking information about William Norton Adams. They did not have much information, except to say that there was a family history that at one time his name may have been Lord William Chase. Based on information you have on Mary Vines Adams, perhaps that was either her father, or possibly a first husband instead of an "alias" for William Adams.
Posted on: Yuba County, California Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Yuba/442 Surname: Adams Brown Coe ------------------------- Jean- My lineage is through William and Mary Adams daughter Blanche, who married Ernest Brown. Their daughter, Norma Brown married Herbert H Coe, whose youngest son, Robert Coe is my father. I live in Wheatland, and have all my life. My father was born in Sheridan. Ethel Brock loaned my parents the money to buy their first house in 1948. There are Adams descendents all around Yuba, Sutter and Placer county. Several years ago I was eating at a restaurant in Alta, Placer County, and the cashier looked at my check, and said her grandmother had lived in Wheatland.I asked her who her grandmother was, and she said Ethel Brock. My oldest boy was engaged to marry a young lady years ago (never did happen), and while visiting with her one day, found out she was also a descendent of William and Mary Adams. Her grandmother was (probably still is) active in the Adams family association. Have you ever connected with Helen Goforth in Wheatland?- she is one of Ethels granddaughters, and a delightful person. There are a lot of us around here.Incidentally, William and Mary Adams are buried at Indian Springs cemetary at Penn Valley. Hope to hear from you again. Bob Coe
Posted on: Yuba County, California Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Yuba/440 Surname: Adams, Miller, Brock, Cate, Kile ------------------------- Hi Robert, My basic line is: William Norton Adams b.abt.1817 NY, d.1892 Sheridan, Placer Co CA; married Mary Ann (Chase) Vine abt.1840 in unknown. Mary Ann was b.abt.1823 in England. I have not been able to established the ancestry of William or Mary Ann, nor exactly when or where they were married. A history of Manitowoc County WI, stated that William Norton Adams started the town of Centerville, and made it the county seat. They were in Cedarville, Manitowoc Co WI 1850 census, with George 8y, John Q.6y, Lorenzo D. 4y, Mary Ann 2y, and Wm. F. 7 or 9 months. By 1860 they were in Rough & Ready Twp, Nevada Co CA. By then they had added children, Perry 8y, and George 2y. In 1870 they were in the same area, and by 1880 they had moved to Sheridan, Placer Co. I have not discovered William or Mary in a later census. Their child, Mary Ann Adams married Alexis Miller. Their child, Ellen F. Miller married to Charles Cate. Their child, Ethel Cate married Frank Brock. Then their child, Beatrice Brock married Emmett Kile, and their child, Richard Kile, was my father. I have a great deal more information that I have collected over the past five years. I found my dad in Wheatland area after 42 years of separation. It happened that I found and saw his mother before I was able to talk with him. She died that same year, and my dad died in Nov 99. As for the rest of the Brock family I know hardly anything about them on a personal level. I think I was possibly two years old when I last saw any of them. Hoping to hear from you. Jean
