Posted on: Yuba County, California Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Yuba/10481 Surname: Rideout ------------------------- Hi... I am a Rideout, and during my own research, I came across a little information that may give you another path to check out regarding Benjamin. I came across a John w. Rideout, born 1824 in Bowdoinham. Died 1903. Son of William I. and Rebecca. He worked on Maine State Line Brunswick to Portland, Me. In 1849, he had the gold fever and went to CAliformina. On his return to Bowdoinham, married a Maria H. Grover, daughter of Bowdoin Grover of Bowdoin, Me. He went west again for a year, then to Haverhill, MA., then to Bowdoinham, then to Calias, ME. In 1867, the returned home and bought the William Stinson House, which he lived in until the fire of 1902. Children: Mrs. Rose Reed of Organge, NJ., Charles A. Rideout of Boston, MA. I hope this helps. If you know Benjamin's parents, I have some less detailed notes about other Benjamin Rideouts from that area of Maine. Good luck. Linda

I sent this out to some of you earlier and sent the wrong url. The correct url is: www.ellisislandrecords.org The site opens tomorrow and covers almost all people immagrating to the USA between 1892-1943 and landing in the Port of New York. This ought to help us jump over a few of those brick walls we are all running into now and then. Aloha Joe

When I visited a number of years ago, the only remnants of Rose's Bar Township I found was a red schoolhouse marked "Rose's Bar School". There is not much to Smartville, either. My great-great grandfather, Michael Bradley, left New Jersey for the Gold Rush and settled in Rose's Bar Township. I have a photo of the schoolhouse, and a number of photos of Smartville I can share.

Posted on: Yuba County, California Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ca/Yuba/10469 Surname: ------------------------- I am looking for any information on Rose's Bar Township in Yuba county California. I am interested in what it is known as today. The late 1800 censuses indicate the name but I cannot find Rose's Bar Township in any modern literature or maps. If anyone knows any history of this area, I would love to learn about it. Thank for any help.
Regarding Look-ups: I finally talked to the librarian at the Yuba County Library where the California Room is located. It contains the history of Yuba and Sutter Counties, Some California history. It contains a card file with names and info, which is where I search for info, it also contains books, tax records, microfilm for the local newspapers, directories and lots of other info. She told me that the card files do not contain obits after 1950 except for VIP's. For me to find an obit not listed on a card I will need the date of death. I have names & dates already requested that I will look for on my next trip to the library, plus a new look-up I received today. I will go back thru my E-Mails and make sure if I have a name and date that I couldn't locate earlier, I will look it up on Microfilm. The library charges 25 cents for each copy made of an Obit or other request. Unless you request more than 3 there will be no charge, I will need your address so I can mail it to you. If you need a death or birth certificate, please contact the State of California, I don't have their URL or snail mail address, but will try to obtain it for the list. I will try to obtain your information as soon as I can. If I have missed what you requested, please let me know. I do have about 6 request that I havn't replied to yet. Thank you, Carole
