    2. The California room at the Marysville library has a wonderful collection.? Call ahead for hours as the last I heard hours are cut back due to money crunch.? The Yuba Co.Recorders office is a treasure trove.? It's located out side of down town. The court house is down town but records have been moved outside of there to the location I spoke of.? I can't remember the name of street....Take a lunch.? No restaurants nearby.. Good luck Barbara. -----Original Message----- From: Shepard Steve C Ctr 9 IS/SCB <Steve.Shepard.Ctr@beale.af.mil> To: cayuba@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, 14 Jan 2008 8:49 am Subject: Re: [CAYUBA] Research Trip Well, my recent Yuba and Sutter county research has been very effective; the several groups were helpful and have no problem correcting and instructing. 1. [CAYUBA] Moses Mellon
    2. Morley Mellen
    3. Moses was born in New Brunswick, Canada in 1825. In 1833 Moses and his siblings and mother were in New York on their way to Upper Canada (Ontario). Moses married Ann Young in London, Ontario in 1849. The Canadian census of 1851 has them in Delaware, Ontario with a son, Freman. The 1860 US census finds Moses, Ann and Freeman in Bear River township, Yuba, CA The Sacramento Daily Union dated may 13, 1869 has Moses on his wat to San Quentin prison for grand larceny. The 1870 census shows him still in prison. The 1870 census has Ann and two sons, Freman and Gervace in East Bear River township, Yuba. Freman is 19 and Gervace is 9. The 1910 census, East Bear River, Has two shepherds, Freeman and Tervaise Mellon. That's all I have. Is it possible to discover records for San Quentin? Moses was only in for six years. Did Ann re-marry? Did the boys, 49 and 58 in 1910 leave any descendants? Where can I look? Any and all replies would be appreciated. Morley Mellen mmellen@rogers.com

Author: jn2tv4 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.california.counties.yuba/1501/mb.ashx Message Board Post: GENEALOGY NEWS ALERT Contact: rps@rememberrockford.com CALLING ALL COUSINS DESCENDED FROM FAMILIES OF ROCKFORD, NORTH CAROLINA The Rockford Preservation Society has announced the launch of its 2007 Remember Rockford capital campaign. A major thrust of the campaign is for the village to reconnect with the descendants of families for whom Rockford is an ancestral home. "The campaign offers these descendants a real opportunity to preserve for future generations of their families their heritage and their home," says Ms. Hannah Holyfield, President of the society. "We are going to work with genealogical groups and with ancestry sites on the Internet to reach out to descendants who may have only minimal knowledge about their ancestors' lives here but would like to know more. We plan to contact these descendants and ask them to help us restore the village and then, literally, to come back home." The culmination of the "Remember Rockford" campaign will be a Remember Rockford Families Reunion to be held in 2009. The reunion date will be set in the coming months. Anyone with family ties to Rockford is encouraged to go to rememberrockford.com and register to receive news updates of planned events for the coming months.
