Hello All, Christiane Sophia Dorothea (NEUMANN) KOEHLER was my husband's Great-grandmother. She was born in Mecklenburg, Prussia. Her grave stone gives her DOB as 5 Feb 1842. Her marriage record would have her born in 1840 or 1841. "Sophia's" maiden name might have actually been NIEMANN, but her children evidentially believed it to be NEUMANN. Sophia's marriage record (We are relatively certain we have the right one.) states her as the 2nd daughter of Hans Heinrich NIEMANN and ___?___ Fredericke BAUSTIAN. Her parents' grave stones show her parents as Elizabeth & Henry NEUMANN. And, Sophia had a sister known as Ella, who is buried beside the parents. Sophia married Christian F. KOEHLER (KÖHLER in Prussia) in 1868 in Wolcottsville, Niagara County, NY. Both of them had emigrated from Germanic Europe to the US. They moved westward to settle on the land that he had gained from his Civil War service. Before reaching this land (in Macon County, Missouri), they had a picture made in a German town in northeast Iowa. We don't yet know as to whether they ever lived there, however. Both are buried in Macon, Missouri. He died in 1906; and she, in 1918. My sister-in-law has researched the family for about 30 years and has information on all of the descendants of this couple. We are more than willing to share. *And*, we are always looking for further information about the family. Leslie (Bridges) Kohler Aug67@att.net --and-- Aug67@mchsi.com mailing address: P.O.
