My husband's Ggrandfather was the family's KÖHLER immigrant. He emigrated from the Sace-Coburg area of Germanic Europe ca 1850. He states, on one of his papers, that he was born in Metz. There are several towns of that name in the Germanic Parts of Europe. He m/ in Wolcottsville, Niagara County, NY, fought for the Union in the War Between the States and settled in Macon County, MO... where he lived the bulk of his life. His 'Americanized' name was Christian F. Koehler. His gravestone says that he lived (22 Sept 1837-3 Jan 1906), but I have begun to seriously wonder about his birth year because of a family of immigrants, who came to Niagara County, NY during the right time-frame.
