    1. [Caylor] Saxony-Coburgh (Metz or Melzow)
    2. ~~ Leslie ~~
    3. Good Morning, I need your help. My husband's Ggrandfather's Naturalization paper says: "State of New York, Niagara County (dated 4 Oct 1856) I, Christian Kohler, aged 26 years, and born in Saxony do solemnly swear, that it is my bona tide intention to become a citizen of the United States of America; and I do hereby renounce and abjure forever, all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Soverneignty, whatever, and particularly to the Sace of Coburgh of whom I am now a subject." It is signed: Christian KÖHLER. The record of Christian's marriage (in Wolcottsville, Niagara Co, NY) says that he was born in Melzow, Prussia. His wife's pension papers (Christian d 1906) say that he was born in Metz, Germany. Can anyone here help me to figure out where we would look for any records of Christian's birth, baptisim, parents, etc. in today's Europe? What I really need, but have as yet not found, are overlay maps showing his POB on an 1830's map along with his POB on a modern- day map. (I still do not understand where he was born in reference to today's boundries.) BTW, we have a "mega" amount of information about this man, Christian F. KOEHLER (ca 1837 Germanic Europe-1906 Macon Co, MO) and his descendants. And, we are willing to share. Leslie (Bridges) Kohler - Aug67@att.net P.O. Box 276, Carrollton, MO 64633-0276 and P.O. She later married Daniel Donaldson Moore, also from that area. He was the son of John L. Moore and Artie Lukinza Howard Neal Moore. Any info on Ruth and/or her parents (Thomas Caylor I believe, and perhaps Rebecca) would be appreciated. I am not sure the right names of Ruth's parents, but everything else is accurate. Surnames: Caylor/Cayler/Marchant/Etcher/Atcher/Oatyer/Lease Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BMI.2ACIB/92.1 Message Board Post: Hi Maureen, In my records I have a William H Caylor, b. Nov 1849 with a sister, Elizabeth (Lizzie) b. 1853. They were the children of Jacob Caylor, b. 1827 d. Sep 1852 and Sarah Marchant b. 1829. Jacob was the son of Jacob Caylor and Catherine Etcher/Atcher/Oatyer. The elder Jacob and Catherine were among those who came from Loudoun County, Virginia to Ross and Fayette Counties, Ohio. Others in that migration included Jacob's brother, Adam, (my husband's ggggrandfather) and sister, Mary, as well as their families. This much is pretty well documented. There seems to be the possibility that the elder Jacob was the son of Jacob and Hannah Lease Caylor. While I am not certain as to the source of that part of the puzzle these names are often connected in the early Loudoun County records.
