He was 12 years of age when he came to the U.S. with his sister arriving in Newark, New Jersey, where he learned the trade of bricklaying. Travelled abroad, arriving in Santa Barbara in 1871, building many bulidings in that city. Purchased ranch in Carpinteria where he stayed until 1890. Then purchased 115 acres in Montalvo, Ventura County. Married in Guadalajara, Mex. to Louisa Camarena/Camareno;seven children;Lorenzo;Mrs. Harry Valentine;Ellen;Isabelle;Frank;James;Mrs. C.H. Weaver. James Ward died Dec. 8, 1910. More on children, etc.
