    1. [CAVE] Swisher/Caves/Cooper Illinois/Missouri
    2. Hello Well, I went digging and researching again today. This time in Adams County Court House and the Brown County Court House in Illinois. Found a couple of pieces of interesting information that I am provding below. Hettie R. Caves, age 18 next birthday, daughter of M. Caves (Merit Caves) and Jennie Cooper (Jennie Swisher), married March 26, 1908 in Brown County Illinois to Charles Eakins, age 28 next birthday, of Ottumwa Wapella County, Iowa. Hettie is listed as 18 years of age and born in Missouri. (My mom, now 83, remembered her name after I talked to her. Before I told her that Hettie Caves married somebody from Iowa, my mom told me Hettie lived in Ottumwa Iowa. So I know this M. Caves is Merit Caves). So, since I had previously found Jennie residing with Absolum S. Swisher in the 1900 Census of Adams County Illinois with her son Martie, she "probably remarried a Cooper after 1900 and before March 26, 1908, but no such marriage found in Brown County Illinois. I have not searched for Jennie Cooper in Adams County Illinois yet) Bert Cave, born in Liberty, Adams County Illinois on November 27, 1885 to Merritt Cave and Jennie Swisher. Listed Merritt Cave as being born in Clarence Missouri, and Jennie Swisher as being born in Clayton Illinois (I'm not sure if Clayton is correct). Bert Cave filled out a "Delayed Record of Birth" and had two individuals swear out to his date of birth. One of those was a Guy A. Amen, Clayton Illinois. (Interestingly enough, Absolum S. Swisher was buried in the Amen Cemetery, Adams County Illinois. Charles A. Caves, who I previously "assumed" was Charles Ashworth Caves, was in fact Charles Absolum Caves according to his birth record, dated September 19, 1878 in Concord Twp., Adams County Illinois. Parents listed as Jennie Caves, Nu Swisher, and Merritt Henry Caves. Note: This is the first evidence that the "H" in Merrit H. Caves stood for the name Henry. Charles is listed as the "1st Child" of Merrit Henry Caves and Jennie Swisher. Looks like L. or T., A. Davison Kellerville, Adams County Illinois as name of Medical attendant to birth. What was even more interesting about the Birth Record for this Charles Absolum Caves ws the fact it lists the birth place of his father Merritt Henry Cave as being Pettis County, Missouri, being an age of 26 and lists his mother Jennie Swisher's place of birth as Hancock County Illinois, being an age of 21. (I attempted to stop at the Hancock Illinois Court House but they were closed by the time I got there. Liola Swisher, married Bert Faler of Clayton, Concord Twp, Adams County Illinois. Liola lists her father as A. S. Swisher (Absolum S. Swisher) and, the marriage was witnessed by A. S. Swisher and Mrs. Jennie Caves. Dated August 11, 1905 at Clayton Illinois. Bert Faler's father was listed as George Faler, having no mother's name listed. If you see anything at all that connects or might help me, please contact me. I'm working very hard to find out where Merritt Henry Caves and Jenny Swisher Caves Cooper are buried. My mom, now 83 would very much like to know where her grandparents are buried. It may be that Jenny is buried as a Cooper, and today is the first day that I have been made aware of this fact. Thomas W. Rogers
