Jim, Thanks so much for being among the first "American" Caves to test. Your results give us another piece of the puzzle. I follow some half dozen family research projects on different ancestral lines. One obvious observation is that as with any scientific study, the larger the sample of participants, the more information can be gleaned. For example in my Ivey line, we have about forty male surnamed Ivey participants who descend from a common ancestor in the late 1600's. From this sample you can often tell approximately which generation a mutation occurred. Most of these participants, incidentally, have extended to 64 markers. As noted in earlier posts, there is an exact 37/37 match between a descendant of John Cave of the Revolution, who some people have as a great grandson of John Cave and --- Andrews, and a descendant of Valentine Cave of Northamptonshire, Virginia. It is quite possible that these two descendants inherited the "ancestral" haplotype, and there were no mutations, and that somewhere after John Cave and --- Andrews, in Jim Cave's line, two mutations occurred. Again, to echo what Jim says, we need as many Caves who are willing to participate. Jim if you have Cave cousins from Robert's line they could test as well. Your y dna "signature" may have mutated since Robert. Michael Walker In a message dated 9/20/2007 9:05:34 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: I, Jim Cave, have received the results of Y DNA tests done for the purpose of determining more about the origin of my branch of the CAVE family. By paper trail my earliest known CAVE ancestor is Robert Cave who died in Culpeper County Virginia in 1755. His contemporaries in the area were Benjamin the Burgess, David, William and John. Circumstances suggest that these men were sons of John and ? Andrews Cave. John's missing will was proved in Stafford County in 1721. The 12, 25 and 37 marker tests show that I am genetically linked to a CAVE family group about Leicester, South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire in middle England; members of which have also been recently tested. So it stands to reason that my family is descended from the Cave's of Middle England. Of course from a genealogy standpoint the question is who was the common ancestor. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

I am descended from Benjamin Sr (the Burgess) through my grandmother Mary Cave Troutman. I agree with you on the probable relationships of the early VA families. There are probably numerous direct male descendants in Clay County, MO. Darrell Cave of Kearny would be one. Also the Cave that organized the Cave's Cove website might be one. I think he was descended from my great uncle Uriel Cave. I don't recall for certain, but I have it in my records. I don't know if he is still alive. A log from the tree 7 feet 7 inches in diameter and 22 feet long, was hollowed out by hand, making the home consisting of a bedroom, library, kitchen, shower bath, electric lights, hot and cold running water........Mr. CAVE was enroute to the eastern states giving short talks upon the preservation of national forests pointing to the fact that it is a public duty to conserve timber which has taken years to grow....." ----------------------------------------------------------- books.google.com/books?id=_PwBAAAAMAAJ&printsec=titlepage History of Boone County, Missouri Enter Cave in search box - right hand column ----------------------------------------------------------- http://www.worldvitalrecords.com/recentcontentlisting.aspx View the most recent databases for limited time. -----------------------------------------------------------

Charlotte Caves was born April 12, 1851 and died Jan. 14, 1916. She married Mr. Curtis. He was born in 1833 and died 1889 in Pittsville, Wisconsin. As far as I know they only had 4 children- My great grandfather-James Truman born 1881-died 1955, George-born 1884-died 1969, Kate, and Carrie (possibly Carra-born 1878). I am specifically looking for info on Kate and Carrie. I was told that Kate moved to California and married a Laing and Carrie never married and stayed in Wisconsin. I am trying to find where Kate and Carrie are buried, Charlotte Caves' parents and J.T. Curtis' parents. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you! How exciting Jim and Mike. Will be most anxious to see what the extended markers tell. I found some hairs in one of my Dads hats. I wonder if that would work? You all didnt think they could use a tooth...But I see all sorts of things being used in the news and forensic files. Would I have to go another route to get it and then submit to the CAVE DNA project. I am really trying to find one thing of Dads that would work.
