Other Caves mentioned (from the index) are Reverend Cave, Caroline Cave, E. H. Cave, Henry Cave., J. B. Cave, John Cave, Martha Cave, Mary Cave, Mary Williams Cave, Mildred Cave, Reuben Cave, Richard Cave, Sarah Cave, Thomas Cave, William Cave, and William S. Cave. Do any of those sound familiar? >>>>>>>>>>>>>Looking for any information as to the relationships between above individuals? Tom travelback4u@aol.com There were quite a few index entries for Henry, Richard, and some others, so I looked at a few.>>>>What other index entries are in this book about the Cave Famlies? These quotations are from information about early settlers (around 1815, when a treaty was signed with the Indians): "Wm. Graham, Reuben and Henry Cave, and perhaps some others, all from Madison County, KY., settled along the old Boone's Lick trail, or old St. Charles Road, leading from St. Louis to Franklin" (p. 130). "Around the present site of Columbia were...Richard and Reuben Cave,...John Cave,..." (p. 134). Henry Cave Senr. served on a grand jury in Smithton on August 6, 1821 (p. 160). Henry Cave, Sr., also appeared on a list of receipts and expenditures for 1824 (printed in the Franklin Intelligencer on January 1, 1825); he was paid 5.00 "as commissioner to view a road in 1822." Henry Cave was an original member of the Baptist Church of Columbia, organized in 1823 (p. 818). In a Fourth of July celebration at the town of Smithton in 1820, Reuben Cave, Esq., offered several toasts: "May the Constitution of the State of Missouri be formed to the satisfaction of its citizens" and "Col. Daniel Boon, the pioneer of the West--may his last days be his happiest, and may his posterity prosper" (p. 147). Richard Cave, it appears, had a mill: "Richard Cave's mill was on the farm now owned by Capt. David Guitar. It was put up about 1821 or 1822 and was a horse mill" (p. 736). Richard was also the first justice of the peace for the township of Columbia (p. 738). As to the 1850 gold rush participants, Merit is the only Cave listed. John, Robert, and Tyre Martin and Nathan Martin, Jr. are also listed. That's about all the information there is. Well, that's a sample. I don't find Tyre Martin mentioned in the same context with any of these Caves. However, note that Reuben and Henry Cave came from Madison County, KY; this is where the Sappingtons, Joneses, Harrises, and Martins who were related to each other came from, too. (You will find Tyre Harris as well as Tyre Martin in Boone County.) It looks like you ought to be able to connect your Merit with one of the early Caves. Good luck. Beverly Park Peavler P.S. Hello I received a copy of a deed from St. Clair County Missouri that might help. Merit H. Cave of St. Clair County Missouri was granted a deed by The United States of America #55932 November 1, 1859 Recorded General Land Office. The East Half of the North East quarter, and the North East quarter of the South East quarter of Section Seven in the Township Thirty Six, of Range Twenty five in the District of Lands subject to sale at Warsaw Atipeari ?, containing One Hundred and Twenty acres. Anyone know how to know exactly where this land was located in 1859? What County would it be now? I'm wondering if I could find a Platt Map of that area, it might help me find a burial site for the family, or a will. Thanks Jane Thomas W. Rogers

www.bocomo.org/hbc0739.htm The History of Boone County Missouri by W.F. Switzler originally published in 1882 Brown's Station War Incident -- Killing of Maj. Wm. Cave. During the civil war, September 4, 1864, a squad from Capt. Carey's company of the Third M. S. M., rode out from Columbia and shot and killed Maj. Wm. Cave, who then lived a mile north of Columbia, on the farm now owned by Col. E. C. More. The look-out in the cupola of the court house reported that he saw a squad of bushwhackers ride up to Maj. Cave's residence about noon, and after remaining long enough to eat a hearty dinner, came out again, and rode away into the brush. The squad was immediately sent out, and soon returned, reporting that the "old devil" would feed no more bushwackers.

Hello Question??? Hayden Cave, as found in the information below. Might he be Ezekiel Haydon Cave born abt 1807 to Reuben Cave and Charity Haydon who married in 1797 in Fayette County Kentucky? Alonzo was from Centralia.Karen:You hit the mother lode! Alonzo CAVE was the son of Ann Eliza WILLIAMS and Haden Cave. On 23 Nov 1854 he married Lucinda ROBERTS in Boone County, Missouri. His parents were married 8-9-1827 in Boone County, Missouri. According to the will of his grandmother, Frances Brent WILLIAMS, his mother died prior to March of 1843. Haden CAVE was the second husband of Ann Eliza WILLIAMS. Her first husband was James COLLINS who died in August of 1827 in Boone County, Missouri. Alonzo had a sister, Mary Frances.I have a copy of the will of Frances Brent WILLIAMS who died in Boone County on 5 March 1843. In it, she mentions Alonzo CAVE and says that she bequeaths no more to him than she already has given him. I'm delighted to hear from you as I have no record of the descendants of Alonzo CAVE.I have a rich and varied account of this family, partly because they were of the first group of Kentuckians to emigrate from the Bluegrass to central Missouri; but most interestingly because my g-g grandfather, John Brent WILLIAMS ( brother of Ann Eliza Williams CAVE) was a pioneer journalist who left a detailed record of this family. This is just a quick message to welcome you into a small but very importantcentral Missouri family. Please tell me all you know of Alonzo, and I will respond with what I know of his Kentucky and Virginia heritage.Annie Jaech"

Hello Merritt Henry Cave born 1852 in Clarence, Pettis County, Missouri to parents yet unproved ????? married Jennie Swisher (born 1857 in Virginia) October 16, 1877 in Brown County Illinois Children proved: Jennie Caves was 21 when their 1st child was born, Charles Absolum Caves born September 19, 1878 in Concord Twp, Adams County Illinois, 2nd birth Unnamed Male Child Born November 17, 1880 in Cooperstown, Brown County Illinois, Bert Cave born November 27, 1885 in Liberty, Adams County Illinois, 3rd birth Hettie R. Caves, my grandfather, who, well, lets see, stated he was born April 18, 1890 in Pine Bluff Arkansas, stated he was born April 18, 1890 in Popular Bluff Arkansas, the 1900 Census of Adams County has him as grandson to Absolum S. Swisher and being born in March of 1888 and... lastly, Martie W. Caves put on his marriage license to Beulah Estella Simmons in Knox County Illinois that he was 22 when he was married in 1915, giving him a birth date in 1893 in Pine Bluff Arkansas. Missouri Deeded 120 acres Certificate #55932 Dated 1859, So this has to be a Merritt H. Cave, Sr. and not a 7 year old man. But is this the Merritt H. Cave that married Catherine Rush in Monroe County Missouri on June 21, 1835? To examine if this is Merrit H. Cave who married Catherine Rush, I turned to the 1850 and 1880 Census below, especially noting Catherine and Gabriel, then looking at the location of Pettis County Missouri in 1850. Note: Catherine Rush is connected to Gabriel Rush, and is daughter of Garland Rush. Garland Rush died in 1820, when Catherine Rush was only 3 years of age, and she went to live with Garland Rush's brother Gabriel. It is a highly likely conclusion that she would then name her son after the man who raised her. 1880 Census Butler County, Missouri CAVE, Gabriel; Age: 41; Born: Missouri; Color: white; Relationship: head; 1850 CAVE , Jane D. ; Age: 35 ; Born: Missouri ; Color: white ; Relationship: wife CAVE , Sarah C. ; Age: 15 ; Born: Missouri ; Color: white ; Relationship: daughter CAVE , John R. ; Age: 13 ; Born: Missouri ; Color: white ; Relationship: son CAVE , Joseph A. ; Age: 10 ; Born: Missouri ; Color: white ; Relationship: son CAVE , Charles M. ; Age: 5 ; Born: Missouri ; Color: white ; Relationship: son Location: Butler Co. ; Volume: 41; E.D.: 11; Page: 19; Line: 16; ------------------------------1850 Census Below-------------------------------------------------- CAVE, Catherine; Age: 33; Born: KY CAVE, Gabriel; Age: 12; Born: MO; CAVE, Martha A.; Age: 7; Born: MO CAVE, Susan F.; Age: 6; Born: MO CAVE, Margaret; Age: 3; Born: MO CAVE, James R.; Age: 1; Born: MO Location: Pettis Co., 68th Dist.; LDS Volume: 443617; Page: 112A/223; Line 24 Martha Ann Cave, Age 7, MO (above) >1860 St. Clair Co., MO Census: Charles F. Merritt Cave m Jennie Swisher October 16, 1877 Brown Co Illinois So as you can see, I am clearly lost and looking for a nibble of a lead. And it may be that all these marriages above are sons of various children of Merit H. Cave and Catherine Rush. I need to find out who the parents are of a Donna Mae Caves who is suppose to be still living, married, in the Ottumwa, Wapella County Iowa area. She "might" hold the key, if I can learn who her parents are. It is now my belief that the descendants stayed close to cousins or half siblings, but they are scattered thru the midwest, possibly even to California. And it is this highly fragmented family tree that my mom's brother Ernest Caves of Galesburg goes to the Library Computer regularly to make sure nobody is making progress in rebuilding the family tree. Why? He did extensive research in the 1940's and 1950's... as well as states he was given a documented family tree, but told never to share it with anyone. And my friends, that makes me want to work even harder... So I will keep buying birth, marriage and death certificates of all the Cave/Caves in the areas I find new ones, so that "we" can rebuild this family tree as best we can. And as you know, I'll share it all..openly, even give you the certificates of ones that are in your direct line, that I don't connect to. What do you think? Have I proved the connection to Merritt H. Cave and Catherine Rush? Lastly, if you read this all the way to here, and have been following or helping me in any way, shape or form, THANK YOU. Thomas W. Rogers P. O.
