    1. [CAVE] Re: [CAVE) Fulton Calloway county MO
    2. Most of the CAVE family from around Fulton, Calloway county has been researched by a lady who is now deceased. I believe some of her records are in the Fulton Library. I stopped there for a few minutes and got some names of others researching in the area. My list of 14 in 1990 would be outdated now. But if you will write to the library there, they will give you a list of names of people who are researching this line of CAVE family. I know she had a direct line back to VA. She had worked on it for years. I hope her work survived. this is her ancestor chart she sent me in 1976 Alleyne Cave dau of John C. CAVE 6 Sept 1853 Callaway co. 2. Notes: In an effort to look further into the Cave/Caves, Thomas William Rogers contacted Billy Cave by phone on December 2, 2000, at 1-870-247-4399. Billy's residence was at 508 Dawson Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71602. In the conversation, Thomas William Rogers (Born 05/09/1954 in Peoria County, Illinois to Donald Clarence Rogers and Cleta Irene Caves) Bill stated he would look up some family information. Also in the conversation, Bill stated that there were Cave families in Beaver Springs Arkansas and Hot Springs Arkansas. His own line connected to the Welch Family and the Cave families near Guyman Oklahoma. His father divorced, after being an oil rigger in Oklahoma. Billy stated that his father's name was Ed. Further information may become available from Billy in January of 2000, after he has time to look at some old family bibles. I tried to contact Billy again today, but have not had any success. This cemetery, located on what was the Hoffman farm, is known as both the Hamtown and Hoffman Cemetery. John M. Elkins J P Filed for record February the 5th 1857 James M. Beck Recorder Lewis Richard Ashworth was a plantation and slave owner and later a teacher and preacher. It is said that he was shot by the Kansas Red Legs because he would not tell where his sons were, while living in Osceola, Mo. At the time of his death, ca. 1865, his family was close together, but after the Civil War and between 1866-1870, the children in this family seemed to scatter and lived with other families. Also, it seems possible that the first nine or more children (13 in all) had three given names. While living in Virginia this family was using one particular given name and continued to use it up to 1865 or 1870. After this it seems the entire family started using a different given name. This is showing up in documents, census records and just recently (1988) descendants of Lewis Richard Ashworth. The story about Lewis and the Kansas Red Legs, has not been proven as of yet, but it is still being worked on. This family has been extremely hard to research, as they do not want to stay in one place. What may be of interest to you, Lewis and family left Va. between 1838 & 1840 going to Rives Co., Mo.(which became Henry Co., Mo. 10/15/1841) and later his location fell within the boundaries of St. Clair Co., Mo. Lewis and family were in Monegan Township, Rives Co., in 1840. He is also noted, without moving, as being one of the early settlers in Cedar Co., Mo. which was formed from Dade Co & St. Clair Co., in 1845. Charles married Martha Ann Cave and they had at least one child-Sarah C. Josephine and Merit and Martha Ann Cave - seems to me to be brothers/sisters. The above Records are from the actual Census Records on Microfilm 8. More Cave Information: Hamtown/Hoffman Cem Located on what was the Hoffman farm. Swisher who died in Adams County in 1910 and is buried in the Amens Cemetery, in Adams County Illinois) who married October 16, 1877 in Brown County Illinois. Their son Martie W. Caves married Beulah Estella Simmons in 1915 in Knox County Illinois and raised their family in Greenbush, Warren County Illinois. I'm currently working on trying to find the graves of Merritt Cave and Jennie E. Swisher for my mother, now 83, who would very much like to know where they are buried. In that effort, I need to verify that all the above marriages are to only two Merritt H. Cave individuals, and that in fact my "speculation" about the various marriages shown to Merritt H. Cave took place as I have shown above. By accomplishing this, I may find living descendants that might help me find the graves of Merritt H. Cave and Jennie E. Swisher. So specifically speaking, if you find anything at all that might help this effort, it would be greatly appreciated. Thomas W. Rogers

    2. Hello I'd like you to take a look at the third generation of Eakins below, where my grandfather's sister, Hetti Rosetta Caves married Charles Eakins. Just like her brother, my grandfather, Martie W. Caves named one of his sons Ernest Eugene Caves, he also named a daughter Mabel Caves, and his daughter Norma who married a Ralf Floyd. The names Ernest, Hettie, Martie, Martin, Mabel, and Donald are found in this Cave family line. Remember, Martie W. Caves father, Merritt H. Cave, added the "s" to the family name. So this family continued to pass down these family names. That might help some of you take a closer look at this line, if those names are also in your family lines. Thomas W. 2. Hello Do you have Cave or Caves Family individuals, and have not found their ancestors? How about this. If you post what you know about your oldest ancestor, and address the email to: cave-L@rootsweb.com, or caves-L@rootsweb.com, maybe one of us can help or connect to the information. By knowing what "Parentless Ancestors" are lurking out there, maybe we can connect them to their parents. Just a thought. I know that most of the subscribers on the Cave/Caves lists are quiet, non participants. However, we are all family here, understand the right to privacy, as well as copyright laws. On other family lists everyone openly discusses family lines, and constantly discuss their heritage. I just think it would be nice to hear from a lot of other family members besides myself. I am Thomas William Rogers, My mom is Cleta Irene Caves, daughter of Martie W. Caves and her grandfather is Merritt Henry Cave (without the S). Merritt Henry Cave is the son of Merritt H. Cave who married Catherine Rush June 21, 1835 in Monroe County Missouri. My mom's brother Ernest Eugene Caves has all of the familytree information about our family heritage, but won't even share it with his own sister. He says "She is no longer a Caves, she is a Rogers". He won't share the information with his own daughter for exactly the same reason. Does that make any sense at all? To make matters worse, I have repeatedly found Cave/Caves Individuals recorded in Court House Records as being listed as Carr Individuals, but the hand written information on these Carr Individuals actual licenses or records is then found as being Cave/Caves. So everytime you go look for Cave/Caves individuals, make sure you also look up the Carr's records to take a look at the actual documents. Otherwise you will may very well miss family connections.
