>Hi Wanda, > I have constantly asked why my grandfather Ryland Cosby would head >out west, and one of the answers has always been sent as there was a >fight - versions of what or why are always different. Apparently if my memory serves me right anyway, Daniel Lowe (my >ggggrandfather) and about half of his relatives moved to Iowa after a >fight over religion, when things got too rough, more of the fmaily lines >followed. That included Baber, King, Lowe, Hudson, Cosby, and Robb. >Daniel Lowe settled in the Drakesville, Davis County, Iowa area, and >died there. Others moved on to CA, SD and TX. It is a shame that so >many of the records have been destroyed, we may never get the full >story. I will send out some more inquiries to ones who have many Cosby >documents and see what they have to say. Unfortunately - the one who >has the most it seems, in my immediate branch isn't on line, and >although he does check postings occaisionally, us hard pressed to share >- he does give me small amounts from time to time though and what he >does send is awsome, so will try to contact him again and share what he >has to say, >Marie That would be great, Marie. Since the Burke County Causby lines appear to have been rooted there since the late 1700's, I don't think the Civil War would have been the issue there, but the religious one could very well be it. I will be interested in anything you could learn from the other Cosby researcher about the branches which may have left Virginia for North Carolina. Thanks! Wanda
