Thank you for the information.... I will try to make the necessary corrections... and pass them along. Could you send me an outline of the information so I do not make any errors in inputting the information.... This would be very helpful to me as I am not a Cosby descendant... I am a Sims Descendant.... Cosby is a line I have done research on to find a man names Benjamin Sims who had a daughter named Arrena....I do however like to keep my information as correct as possible... Thank you for your concern and information... Reply-to: CAUSBY-L@rootsweb.com Dear mmkoonc, Thanks for the Cosby information. However you are incorrect on Griffith Dickenson and Ann Cosby. I am a direct descendant of Griffith and Ann. I can tell by your information that you got a hold of Dorothy Burnett Peterson's information because you have Lucy Dickenson and the Cox in your line. Here is Griffith's will he died 1785 in Louisa Co. Va. Notice she had to change the dates. I believe Dorothy connected Lucy to the wrong Griffith Dickenson . The correct on is not married to Ann Cosby. December 12 1785-Louisa County Will of Griffeth Dickason, of Trinity Parish, Louisa Co. dated November 1, 1785, mentions; son, Robert Dickason, tract of land whereon I now live containing 466 acres; son James Dickason, tract of land whereon I now live containing 560 acres; grandson, Nathaniel Anderson; granddaughter, Elizabeth Dabney; granddaughter, Ann Anderson; granddaughter; Mary Anderson; sons, Charles and Higgason Cosby Dickason; daughter Ann Tompkins; and daughter-in-law, Rachel Dickerson. Executors- three sons, Robert James and Higgason Cosby Dickerson. (Will Book 3, page123) Bond of Robert, Jas & Higgason Cosby Dickason Exors. Of est of Griffith Dickason. Amt. 5000 pounds. (Because of the son's name, Higgason Cosby Dickerson, this Griffith was the one who married Ann Cosby) I am decended from Robert. Here is Ann's father's will. Notice Griffith Dickenson, Higgason Cosby Dickenson, and Charles are all mentioned. Robert and James are not mentioned because I'm sure John Cosby knew Griffith would leave them farms. So he left them land they are younger than Robert and James. September 12, 1760 Will of John Cosby lists sons John, Wm, Griffith (Griffith Dickinson). Dau. Elizabeth Snelson. Grandsons: Charles and Higgason Dickinson, sons of Griffith Dickinson, remaining tract of 1000 acres. To son John Cosby all my land in Hanover Co., being his plantation-about 718 acres. To son William Cosby 1200 acres of land in Louisa Co., whereon I posses about 3000 acres, the same 1200 acres, where Will lives called Will's Quarter. To grandsons: Charles Dickinson & Higgason Dickinson, sons of Griffith Dickinson remainder of tract of 1800 acres. Mentions Mary Anderson, wife of Benja. Anderson. Grandsons: James and Cosby Duke, grandsons James Cosby, son of James Cosby. Executors: Cleavers Duke and Bartlett Anderson Recd. 26 March 1761. Ann apparently died before 1760-61 Because she is not mention but some of her children are. Also you have Griffith and Ann marring about 1739. I can prove through bible records that Ann Dickenson Tompkins was born 1735. I run across this genealogy that Dorthory Burnett Peterson put out at least two to three time a day. She must have made a bundle. As I know she sell them. But She has made an error on the Griffith Dickenson who married Ann Cosby. I believe she probably got her information from The History of Louisa County Va. by Malcom Harris. And I can prove that the Griffith Dickenson mention as son of Nathaniel Dickenson is not the Griffith Dickenson who married Ann Cosby. They are related but not father and son. I can show recorded where Nathaniel's son Griffith is married to Sarah. and Sarah is alive at the same time Ann Cosby is alive. So this is also incorrect. It appears that Griffith Dickenson who married Ann Cosby is the son of Thomas Dickenson who patented land in the early 1700's. And it is my belief that Thomas and Nathaniel and another Griffith with a son Griffith who left Louisa for Pittsylvania and Halifax is probably the family. That Dorothy Burnett Peterson should have looked at. Sorry if I seem excited. I keep having to explain this. I should probably just type an article and send to the Virginia Historical Society and have it printed. Sincerely, Connie Dickerson Burkhead
