I am Martha McLain and I go back to two lines that are spelled Cozby or Cosby. The two men were cousins and one was my mother's great grandfather and the other my father's great grandfather. Both men were in the Civil War Christopher Devers Cozby was killed sometime after June of 1863. Where and how we know only by legend. The story says that he had troubles at home and was returning late to his unit after being on leave. The confederate troops shot him by mistake. He was shot in the hip, but a major artery was severed and he bled to death very rapidly. He had dark hair, blue grey eyes and was with dark-complection. He left 2 children, Martha Ann b. 1860 and a baby son George Devers b. 1862. Robert Marion Cozby was wounded at the battle of Atlanta. He was a tall man, and when he loaded his rifle, he exposed his arm to the enemy, as it could be seen above the fortifications. He was shot in the elbow. When the war ended, he walked (carrying his wounded arm across the top of his head) from Atlanta to Wolfe City, TX, (near Dallas). He was always disabled and not able to work much on the farm. My mother remembered him with a long white beard, with tears streaming down his cheeks, as the band played Dixie at the yearly July 4 celebration. I would love to connect the family back to earlier ancestors. Looking forward to hearing about this alternate family. Marti
