    2. Hello fellow Cosby researchers. I am searching for info on the following line: Peter Garland Cosby (b. ~1802 VA) m. Frances W. Rison issue: Mary Jane Cosby (b. 1831) m. William R. Pugh Oscar Garland Cosby (b. 1832 Richmond, VA, d. 1876, Richmond, VA) m. Mary Catherine Forrer issue: Elizabeth Frances Cosby Oscar Garland Cosby, Jr. Isabella Cohoke Cosby Ora Lee Cosby Walter Nelson Cosby (b. 1866 d. 1917 m. Lorena Gertrude Folkes issue: Walter Nelson Cosby, Jr. among others...he was my grandfather I am trying to find the mother and father of Peter Garland Cosby. He was a Tobacconist and hotel proprieter in Richmond most of his life. Disappeared at the end of the Civil War with his wife ?????????? I have been unable to link him to Edward N. Cosby, who gave him power of attorney in 1832, possibly his father. I don't think this is the same Edward Cosby that was the son of James Cosby and Sarah Nelson.....however, there is a link there somewhere. The name Garland and Nelson are very prevalent in my family, including in my own name. Peter G. Cosby may have been the son of Peter Cosby that married Ann Eggleston in Louisa County but the younger children are not mentioned in his will. Any ideas or links out there? I have much, much more info on this line also. Regards, N. Wayne Cosby

    2. Thanks gang for the responses. At least I don't feel like I am out there searching for something that isn't there. Maxine in TX; your names look very familiar. Have to check into my files to see. I hope there is a connection. My David Cosby was born in NC about 1774 & married a woman named Hannah also born in NC in abt 1773. Their son William was born in TN in about 1810. He was married to Betsy Williams born in what is now Claiborne Co,TN in about 1811. Some of the spouses of their children were born in NC. I know that David & Hannah must have had other children. Also before 1777 the part of TN that comprises most of East TN was part of NC. Sue, where was your James Edward born? And where is King William Co located? In VA? Being a nosey person helps when doing genealogy research. Don't you all agree? Those of you that haven't place any information on this board yet, please do. I just might lead to finding someone with some information you are looking for. I don't mean to sound bossy; just want to solve all our mysteries. Thanks to all of you for responding. Wanda, I never doubted that there were others on this list; just wanted to hear from some of them. I really appreciate you, Wanda. We have to help one another to reach our goals. These folks we are searching for tend to hide in the strangest of places. Linda in VA

    2. Hi Paula, Ann COSBY, dau. of John and Martha (GARLAND) COSBY, was b. 1720 and m. ca. 1736, Griffith DICKERSON. Griffith's will, dated 12 Dec 1783, and probated Louisa Co., VA. I do not find a dau. Lucy, but the list is likely incomplete. The listed children were (DICKERSON): Higginson, Charles and Ann. John COSBY (her father) b. ca. 1680 and d. 1761; will probated 26 May 1761, Louisa Co., VA; m. (1) 1710, Martha GARLAND, dau. of Edward. Martha b. ca. 1690; d. 1749. John m. (2) 1750, Mrs. Anne (MERIWETHER) JOHNSON. John COSBY (above) was the son of John and Sarah (____) COSBY, of York Co., VA. This John b. 1623, Ireland; d. 1696. He immigrated (1628) to VA with his father, Charles, as a child. Sarah's (his 2nd wife) will was probated 21 Jul 1740, York Co., VA. John (above) the son of Charles and Mary (LOFTUS) COSBY. There is, of course, much more to this family. Hope this helps. 1. List Guidelines
    2. Wanda Rabb
    3. Hello folks, We now have our default changed for replies. When you reply to a note posted to the list, the default is now set to "reply to list", rather than the individual. On small lists like ours where there is little traffic, this is usually better as everyone gets to benefit from seeing the responses. So, remember - if you don't want your reply to be read by the entire list, you will need to send the reply privately to the individual SOME ADDITIONAL REMINDERS: NOMAIL/UNSUB: Summer is almost upon us and many of you will be taking vacation. Please remember: ROOTSWEB does NOT have a "NOMAIL" function. If you will be away, you must UNSUB from the list and RESUB when you return. If you don't, 2 things may happen: 1) You will accumulate a ton of mail and 2) your ISP may start bouncing mail if you max out and the Rootsweb smartlist will automatically UNSUB you after 4 bounces. Archives ARE available for the time you are away. Email me for instructions. DIGEST/NODIGEST Digest is available on all the lists. On slower lists, digest means no messages for a couple of days. Regardless of whether you are on digest or not, ALL messages are posted to <listname>-L@rootsweb.com. To set digest, send a message to <listname>-D-request@rootsweb.com with NOTHING but SUBSCRIBE in the body text. After you start receiving digest, UNSUB from regular mail by sending a message to <listname>-L-rquest@rootsweb.com with UNSUBSCRIBE in the body text. If you don't do this, you will receive double messages. If you find you don't like digest, just reverse the process: UNSUB from <listname>-D and RESUB to <listname>-L.
