    3. I knew last year when this issue arose, I read the proposal on the FCC web site prior to writing my e-mail to them. When I read this recent post, I admit I did not check out their web site, but I have done so now and all I find is the original proposal and deadline for replies which was February 14, 1997 - not 1998. Therefore, I do not know if this issue is still alive or not. 3. I am interested in knowing more about the Cosby family in the U.S. esp. before the American Revolution. I have a George Cosby who was married to a Mary McGregor, from Northern Ireland, and I am somewhat interested in knowing if this family who fought for the Crown..might be related to those who fought for the Patriots. They were in New York, then went back to Ireland a bit at the end of the war, then back to Ontario, where they were granted land for their service in the War. The name isn't all that common, esp. in the Americas that early, and with that particular spelling. Barbara in Fairbanks, Alaska mlm@mosquitonet.com

    1. New subscriber searching for COSBY connection
    2. Thank you for making a newcomer feel welcome. I signed on with the hope of getting a "back door" clue about the name of my great-great-grandmother, Isabel COSBY JACK (4 Apr 1810-12 Apr 1860), daughter of John JACK (ca. 1770-1780 - 1847) and Mary (Polly) TAYLOR (ca. 1782 - ca. 1856). Isabel's parents were married in Knox Co., TN on 19 Jan 1804. The JACK family moved to Rhea Co., TN, sometime before 1819, perhaps much sooner. Isabel (Isabella) COSBY JACK married Hazard BEAN, Jr. 25 Sept 1828 in Rhea Co., TN and moved to Bradley Co., TN before 1850. John and Polly JACK did not give their daughter (second known child) the name COSBY for no good reason! I have tried to make a connection to the Major James COSBY and wife Isabella Woods who settled in what became Hamilton Co., TN but have not seriously pursued this possibility. Perhaps someone knows the missing pieces of this puzzle. Looking forward to reading this list. . .and maybe an answer! Sandy Pierce

    3. Hi all, I think I was the last newbie to sign on? I don't want to precipitate a Roll Call, necessarily....but I think it would be fun to know at least who/where the new folks have Cosby/Causby/and whatever? I am looking in Canada, and if folks are interested...I have some early Canada Cosby families...Maybe some folks on this list might find a lost Virginian or New York cousin that went north in the French and Indian/American Revolution time frame? Or perhaps...magically appeared on the eve or just after the Civil War...both popular times for in and out of Canada? Is that Of interest to anyone? Barbara at mlm@mosquitonet.com
