    1. [CAUSBY-L] Rootsweb Problems Resolved
    2. Wanda Rabb
    3. Passing along the following from Brian at Rootsweb regarding the recent problems that occurred as a result of spammers attacking the system. These folks work hard to keep our genealogy lists going and they deserve our support. ******************************************************************************** ************************************* Since Tuesday when we resumed normal operations after recovering from the cracker attack, we have received numerous reports of anomalous list server operation. The symptoms included: o Posts and digests disappearing. o Posts appearing in the archives and in the digests, but not being sent to mail mode subscribers. o Several other, more involved, abnormalities. There was indeed a problem that was causing anomalous operation of the main "lists.rootsweb.com" server for one or two 2-hour windows each day and a similar problem that was affecting the "lists2" server zero or one 2-hour window each day. (We accidentally broke "lists2" as we were making repairs to the "lists" server.) Anyway, the problem is now identified and fixed. To the best of our knowledge, there are no remaining problems. These two listservers had operated without problems for more than 200 days each before the cracker attack, and we'll try to provide even better reliability than that out into the future. -B

    1. Re: [CAUSBY-L] Welcome new subscriber
    2. Hello new cousins, and thank you for the warm welcome. I just received some information that helped me to make my COSBY connection clearer. I am the listowner for the FINE mailing list, and have been concentrating in that area. Let me introduce myself, first. Kaye Larrabee PO Box 65600-321 Lubbock, TX 79464-5600 (806) 783-8302 My great-grandmother was Ruthy COSBY (1814-1875 b AL d AR) who married Peter FINE. (Her siblings married into the WILLIFORD, LEWIS, and MANKINS lines....also in my Arkansas batch of cousins) Ruthy's father was Wiley COSBY (1800 - 1849? Disappeared in the Gold Rush) born in Virginia. Married Mary? That's all I have had for 20 years, until an old pedigree from 1964 came by serendipitous genealogy to me this week. Now, I show that Wiley's father was James Woods COSBY 1775-1874 (VA and AL), who was the son of Colonel James COSBY, M.D., of the Colonel Sevier fame and Isabella Woods. And here, my problems begin. Before I go into all my varying information, is anyone from this line who could tell me who Colonel James Cosby's father was? I have 3 conflicting websites, one pedigree, no proof, "Over the Misty Blue Hills", and confusion! Again, thanks for the warm welcome, Kaye

    2. Dear Wanda, I did not realize that you lived in Winston-Salem. I was born in Durham in 1951. I intend to submit my Cosby line in the near future. I thank you so much for your caring thoughts in the days immediately following my daughter's untimely death. Life is very hard right now. I know you are very busy but when you get the time I would like you to visit a website that I created concerning Confederate soldier burials. It has a dedication page to my beloved daughter when you get on the site. It is located at: http://www.youngsanders.org/ Again, many thanks for your thoughts and prayers. With kindest regards, Wayne Cosby

    3. In case you have noticed my absence, I thought I should explain what I am dealing with. There was a major fire in Winston-Salem which destroyed 3 historical buildings (former RJ Reynolds Tobacco factories). It was truly a sad day for our city Thursday when this occurred. My internet provider was located in the building adjacent, and there was major smoke and water damage to that building. I have been unable to log on since the fire started Thursday morning, so I have had no access to my e-mail and thus the mailing lists. They just came back up tonight, and I am busy wading through 138 e-mails - many of which are digest forms of mailing lists! To further complicate things, I had a major hard drive crash last night in which I lost the past month's data. If anyone has written to me lately, I apologize for the lack of response. I feel sure we have new members to our lists. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to ask that you introduce yourselves and send a note to the list regarding the research you are doing on your family line. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon for me!
