    2. Mario and Barbara Martinez
    3. Hi. I am a returning subscriber. A while back Karen Topp e-mailed about Marcus Cosby. I have your guy (well, the info, not the body). Marcus Cosby is buried in Smithville Cemetery and he married in 1905 in Port Dalhousie, and he come in the line of Elliott Cosby, UEL. You have cousins waiting to get in touch with you. Please e-mail me back, and I'll send you off to e-meet your cousins. They are very nice, and have been helpful to me in my own search. Also, if you look in the Ontario FTM CD Rom 116, you will find your fellow's father. FTM 118 also has additonal information. Karen, don't know if you are here... but if nothing else, this will be in the archives, so if you search the archives, maybe you'll see this. Sorry, lost a bunch of files and I don't have your original e-mail. Warmest Regards Barbara Haney Martinez mlm@mosquitonet.com

    2. Ed and Marie Cobler
    3. I think you guys are missing something major in this picture. white or black? cant be one of yours if it isn't white, come on now guys. It's already been proven that there are some very fine up standing Black people who are members of the Cosby family and as such still part of our Cosby family. Henry Cosby - other wise known as the famous Bill Cosby has a well documented family tree - and it starts one one side with our Cosby ancestors who owned slaves. Please don't disregard all the Cosby's you find who are listed as black because they may well be decended from yours and my ancestors. On a nicer note though, when was the James Cosby you're looking for born, and do you have any idea's what area?? Marie Cosby-Cobler <peach@dtgnet.com>

    1. Re: [CAUSBY-L] COSBY SEARCH
    2. Carl C. Rosen
    3. Hi - The facts are that when the slaves were set free, if they were well treated by their masters they took up their masters name, lots of them stayed on. Before that they were listed only as first name (census). Some few may have decended from white families, but most only took their names. Hard to emagine that one treated very bad would then take the name of their former owner.
