    3. Caudill Cousins, A Brief Note Regarding the Knott County Historical Society, Inc. Like other small county historical societies, we struggle to exist. Clay County's Historical Society recently discussed whether to keep its doors open or not. Perry County's has already passed by the wayside. Others still contemplate. None need unsubstantiated negative P.R. The Knott County Historical Society, Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and none of its volunteers receive any financial compensations for their time. It is strictly volunteers who operate the organization. All our banking and bookkeeping is supervised by our C.P.A. Our society, too, has contemplated more than once to shut our doors, but due to the dedicated volunteers across the country and in the county - we are still open. The Society's membership is free to anyone interested in Knott County's or Eastern Kentucky's history. We are one of the few in the state of Kentucky that can say that. The Knott County Historical Society will be honoring the Caudill Family this coming September and has a wealth of information for those who are interested in their Caudill lineages. Not only do we make all our Caudill History Books available to our visitors, we have a database containing over 1 million names of Knott and her surrounding counties. If you would be interested in knowing whether your family is included in our Caudill files, contact us at knothist@tgtel.com. Several Caudill cousins have been contacted and are working on properly honoring the Caudill family this September. I descend from Benjamin (of the early 1700s) and Stephen (of the late 1600s). These lineages have been brought down by such fine researchers as my late friend, Clayton R. Cox, Brian Caudill, and others, which has expedited the Caudill research in Eastern Kentucky. We appreciate those of you who have unselfishly contributed information to ours and other such historical organizations. Sincerely yours, David R. Smith, Pres. Knott County Historical Society, Inc.
