The publisher that Clayton Cox used for "Appalachia Crossroads: The Caudill Family" was Gateway Press, Inc., whose address (as of 1993 when the book was published) was 1001 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't claim to know for sure, but Clayton's heirs (namely his wife and daughter) more than likely hold the copyright to the book now and it would be up to them whether, or not, to have it re-published. I don't think the publisher could do it on their own. I'm sure that the upfront costs involved in having a book of that size re-published is quite high and may be one of the reasons why they chose not to have it re-published. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase my set of books at a pre-publication price of about $75 which was probably close to about the break even cost back in 1993. The post-publication cost for the three volume set was around $110, or so, if I'm not mistaken. It would have been nice if Clayton would have left the rights to his books, and his genealogy research, to some organization such as a Genealogical or Historical Society. That way it could be built upon and re-published from time to time. Brian K.
