I was told John's father was named either Jim or Joe, who was also born in Kentucky. I haven't found any brothers or sisters so far, but that is how genealogy works. Some day maybe!!!! Anyway, if I happen to run across anything, I will let you know. Mike

The Divorce of Rebecca Sims & David Caudill was not final until Apr 1828. The David Caudill, husband of Elizabeth Bridges, died before the 1830 census was taken. The census report for Franklin Co., GA in 1830 shows Elizabeth Caudel, age 30-40 with 1 male & 1 female age 0-5. This David was listed as a Rev. War Vet. The David Caudill that married Rebecca Sims in 1817 was listed in 1830 in Habersham Co., GA as David Caudal: 1 male 30-40, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 20-30, 2 female 30-40. This David was the son of Benjamin & Sarah Cordell. Benjamin was born about 1757 and died in Habersham Co., GA in 1835. He was a Rev. War Vet and the brother of the David that married Elizabeth Bridges. The brothers, David & Benjamin, left a good paper trail from Chatham Co., NC, through Rowan & Wilkes, on their way to Northeast GA. It seems more likely, to this researcher, that they are the sons of Isham Cordell of Granville Co., NC, than the sons of James of Wilkes Co., NC.

He was apparently married to a Sarah Hines Waggoner, so I think these are the Josiah/Sarah entries that appear on census records. I found the following 1870 census entry for Patsy Holloway, who I am pretty sure is Polly's mother. 1870 census, Laurel Springs, Alleghany, NC Family #64, page 8, census date 5 Jul 1870, all born in NC Holaway, Patsy, age 39, F Isaac, age 19, M Mandy, age 17, F Perlina, age 14, F Martin J., age 11, M Kesiah, age 8, F Father John Holloway appears in the 1860 census, but has disappeared prior to 1870. I suspect he may have been a victim of the Civil War. Also, Stephanie, I think the Aris Caudill family must have moved to KY between 1880 and 1884. Drucilla was born in KY in April of 1884, according to the 1900 and 1910 census records. Have any of you found John Aris Caudill in the 1900 census? Here's another interesting item. Patsy Holloway's maiden name is Martha Louisa "Patsy" Waggoner. Her parents are Jacob Waggoner, son of Adam and Nancy (Holloway) Waggoner, and Annie Roberts. This makes her 1st cousin to Matilda Waggoner, so John Aris and Polly were 2nd cousins. Polly's full name is apparently Mary Perlina Holloway. Cherie

It rained most of the forenoon. I dined at Matt Morgan's. He is a descendant of a nephew of Ge. Daniel Morgan of the Revolutionary War. Henry Clay died on Aug. 4, 1902 in a shooting incident. Their only child, my grandfather Henry Clyde Peters, was born the next day Aug. 5, 1902. Martha remarried Albert Gambill, date unknown. I think John A. is John Aris and Polly. Martha M. may be the Martha that Stephanie is descended from. She can probably verify a birthdate and place. This would place John Aris & Polly still in NC as of 1880. Poking around in the familysearch.org website, I found a Josiah Caudill born c. 1813 married to an Eliza. Another site listed him as being married to a Billings (first name not listed). This may not be our Josiah, but it's something to check on. The mention of a step-son is quite interesting. If Matilda is the mother of the Caudill children, she must have died or been divorced sometime before 1860. So many questions! Cherie
