Remember that Spain's war against England was religious based. Both Scotland and Ireland were Catholic countries in 1604. The Scots wouldn't lose their independence to England until 1707. We know the story of the Protestant colonization of Ireland. Our early ancestors spelled the name as Caudle. It changes from there to Caudill, Cordill, Cordell, Cordial, Cordle and others. The problem seems to be that no one was educated in the 1800 Blue Ridge.

Caudill married Nora Sturgill April 18, 1936. It list his place of birth as Hotspot, Kentucky and her place of birth as Roda Va. It lists his parents as John Caudill and Sarah Caudill. Nora was my grandfather's sister; his name was Jack Sturgill. I have a photo copy of an obituary for Nora Caudill that reads as follows: Nora Sturgill Caudill entered eternal life on December 3, 1969 at her residence at Premium, KY. She was the daughter of the late Andy Sturgill and Ida Miles Sturgill. She was born November 30, 1919 being 56 years and 3 days of age at the time of her passing. Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband James Albert Caudill of Premium, KY. 4 sons: Tressie in the US Army, James Allen Cauudill of Troy, Michigan, Ford Caudill of Royal Oak Michigan, Johnny Caudill of Premium, KY. 2 daughters: Inez Bennett of North Carolina, Joyce Faye Sexton of Indiana. 1 brother, Bert Sturgill of Day, KY, 2 sisters: Lettie Turner and Essie Boggs of Day, KY. 4 step-sons: Oliver Caudill of Cussetta, Georgia, Mack Caudill of Spartanburg, S.C., Elmer Caudill of South Lyon, Michigan, Paul Caudill of Hazel Park, Michigan. 10 grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Marie, we are definitely related the Caudill's you speak of are all in my line all the way back to Thomas Caudill, some of them immigrated from scotland into virginia, north carolina and kentucky. From the Reconstructed Census: Virginia, 1720: Thomas Caudwell, Middlesex Co. 1740 Census: John Caudle, Amelia Co., Sampson Caudle, Brunswick Co., John Cawdle, Jr. and Sr. and william of Amelia. 1760 John Caudle, Amelia Co. 1790 John Caudle, Nicolas Cordill and John Cordill There are more contemporary records which list family members with surnames of a different spelling. When I was in Ohio they pronounced the name as Caudle when I was south of Dayton and as Caudill to the north.

I guess Isaac Caudill can't be a sibling to those I've listed as he apparently is born abt 1822.
