This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Caudle, Caudill, Laffoon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EFI.2ACEB/525 Message Board Post: This is awesome stuff. I just found a Rev. War pention application for John Caudle Sr., John Caudle Jr., and William Caudle. The application was filed in Surry County, NC. It was testified by Dennis Laffoon and on behalf of Lewis Caudle John Sr's only remaining live son as of November 10th 1824. In the application, Laffoon clearly states that he was a neighbor of these Caudle's, that they resided in Lunenburg County VA when they enlisted, and that each of these three men served in the Rev. War. In a land grant dated Aug. 10, 1759, Stephen Caudle received 400 acres in Lunenburg County VA on the fork of Great Creek for 40 shillings. On Jan. 1, 1761, Stephen sold 100 acres to Matthew Laffoon. Matthew Laffoon was Dennis Laffoon's father. Laffoon's Mill, as seen on the 1864 Gilmer Map, was located on the Great Creek less than a mile across the Brunswick / Lunenburg County line. Based on these documents, it would seem that: 1. Stephen had a son John Caudle, Sr. 2. John had sons John, Jr., William, and Lewis. 3. The Laffoon's and the Caudle's relocated to Surry County, NC and remained neighbors. 4. John Sr., John Jr., and William were Rev. War soldiers. An interesting aside, Mary Laffoon, Dennis' granddaughter, married the Rev. John Jackson Caudill in Wilkes County NC on May 27, 1864. John Jackson was a son of Elder Daniel Caudill. See http://caudillreunion.org/research/JohnCaudle-Laffoon.htm for a partial transcription of the pention application. If you have other "puzzle pieces", please .... please .... let me know.
