Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EFI.2ACEB/578 Message Board Post: I am looking for info on Matthew David Caudill s/o John W Caudill and Celia Ann Caudill (maiden name n/a). John W and Celia Ann Caudill are seen on the 1920 Greenup KY census with thier two grandchildren, Jessie Caudill and Reuben W Caudill (Bud). Who is this Jessie Caudill? Was he Reuben's brother? Mathews wife was Mossie Bear Caudill. She died in 1918 in the flu epidemic along with her daughter . Mathew David Caudill then remarried someone named Gladys. They are seen on the 1920 Greenup KY census. We heard that Reuben Wesley Caudill had a brother named John and that this brother ran off with Reuben's first wife (her name is unknown) but have never found a brother named John nor anything that shows he was married before he married my grandma Lexie Lane Anderson. I am in search of this brother and any other info anyone may have on the family. I know that Reuben had a sister named Pricie Caudill who married Clell Ham, and another sister named Ann or Artie ann, she died in 1918. I am in search of any other syblings. If you have any info please contact me, I have had the same email address for 7 years and dont plan on changing it anytime soon or ever tcaudill27@yahoo.com

    3. Brian, I paid $99 for the books while in Wolfe County and got Clayton to autograph them. He also had the rights on the Eastern Kentuckian which I believe the copyright had been infringed upon. That too was left to his widow. Has anyone contacted the family about republishing? She may be willing to allow a historical or genealogical society to republish them. David R. Smith, Pres. The publisher that Clayton Cox used for "Appalachia Crossroads: The Caudill Family" was Gateway Press, Inc., whose address (as of 1993 when the book was published) was 1001 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't claim to know for sure, but Clayton's heirs (namely his wife and daughter) more than likely hold the copyright to the book now and it would be up to them whether, or not, to have it re-published. I don't think the publisher could do it on their own. I'm sure that the upfront costs involved in having a book of that size re-published is quite high and may be one of the reasons why they chose not to have it re-published. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase my set of books at a pre-publication price of about $75 which was probably close to about the break even cost back in 1993. The post-publication cost for the three volume set was around $110, or so, if I'm not mistaken. It would have been nice if Clayton would have left the rights to his books, and his genealogy research, to some organization such as a Genealogical or Historical Society. That way it could be built upon and re-published from time to time. Brian K.
