Thompson with the birthdate that matches the WWI Draft card: Feb. 24, 1889, he died July 24, 1965 in Los Angeles County it had mother's maiden name as Bird but birth place of New Jersey not New Zealand. The Social Security Death index has Cecil Thompson b. Feb. 24, 1889 died Jul 1965 last address California SSA Card issued in New York before 1951 the SSA# matches the Death Index. Could Cecil have married a second time as there is a Cecil H. Thompson b. 1889 in New Zealand married to a Maude M b. South Dakota in the 1930 Queens, New York census. You can order, for a fee, the Social Security Application for Cecil which should have his parents names including mother's maiden. Use the Social Security Death Index link at Rootsweb.com and search the name and a form letter is availble to print out for ordering. Last I looked the fee was $27.00 if you provided the SSA#. For a California Death certificate you need to order it from Los Angeles County as the state vital records office in Sacramento is overwhelmed with with requests last I tried to get one.
