    3. HILLCREST CEMETERY ~ Tulare County ~ MARY E WARD "Jim E. Ward KIN" http://www.cagenweb.com/archives/cemeteries/tulare/tula-hill-t.htm Hello, By any chance does anyone know if someone has canvassed this cemetery and taken photo's?? I have 3 or 4 family members here, One is my gg grandmother MARY E. WARD, I'm curious to see her stone as I have just located her husband James Thomas Ward, in Indian territory Okla. in an unmarked grave. Wanted to see what her son James E. Ward did for his mom to give me an idea of something to do for his father. James Thomas Ward, He passed away in 1901, left Mary E. Ward a widowed in 1901 with 6 living children of 8 they had together, James E. Ward age 1yr. The two little ones that were lost young are located with there father in Prospect Cemetery in Old Burnett Indian territory Oklahoma. Currently Macomb Oklahoma. I also found the brother & sister in law to my g g grandfather & Wish I could find some kin to them they have descendants in California. Wish I could locate some of the KNIGHT family to obtain some clues as I do have there full names are still listed now on the website for Prospect now. I've been attempting to provide them with dates & full names of the brother & sister in law located here. I did get the dates & names for Annie Knight & William E. Ward, up on that site, but there are several family members to then unmarked. I can't do for all but for my gg grandfather & two children. But thought I could at try to get them names & dates for the markers of his brother & sister in law & kin located there. Here is the url to that cemetery. MY 3 family members are totally unmarked presently. The have markers up but nothing on them yet. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcemete/pott/prospect/prospect.htm I've just recently gotten his name listed to the cemetery site for Prospect as they had no record of him or his two children there with him. I was able to prove he is there by way of old family letters that were written before my birth by to of the son's of Mary, one of the James "Jim' E. Ward who took care of his mother. The other my g grandfather and the oldest of the living children CT WARD also wrote letter's. We are not exactly sure what side the two little ones are on each side of him but we are working on it. The are by him the question at this moment is who is on what side William or Jesse & on the right or left?? Uggh! I want to place something for them, in Oklahoma and was hoping to see what was done for my gg grandmother, In Hillcrest to get an idea for him. The other family members here are Mary E. Ward, her son James E. Ward. James daughter Jennie C Ward Herzog & wife Audrey Fern Ward. There could be more family here but this is all I'm aware of at present. I really like to located Jim E. Wards remaining family in California, So I could share some letter's written by him that were written before 1963. Thanks and I hope someone may know of someone who has taken photo's in this cemetery or a url that may have photo's listing some markers or stones?? Best regards. 1. Petition to pardon Isaac Glenn, circulated c. 1858 in San Joaquin Valley
    2. Matt Mathews
    3. This is to publicize a "wiki", (a type of collaborative website), that I have started regarding a petition that was circulated c. 1858 on behalf of my ancestor, Isaac Glenn, in San Joaquin, Fresno & Tulare counties, and perhaps other adjoining counties as well. http://glennpetition.wikispaces.com/purpose I'm anticipating that the prospect of finding one's ancestor as a signatory on a petition from this period may interest many descendants to the extent that it places their ancestor in a given locale during a given period, and even allows them to see how they signed their names. The collaborative aspect comes from the fact that I'm hoping to enlist volunteers to help transcribe the signatures, as I've found the estimated 1100 signatures to be much more than I can manage alone. The expectation is that, as these are transcribed, folks will be able to search and find their ancestors much more easily, (since you can't search names on an image). I'm also hoping this experiment will explore to what extent "wikis" can be used to collaborate on undertakings of this kind. As a bonus, I've also included information about the trial which many may find of some interest from a historical perspective. As it happens, this case, People vs. Glenn, became a significant legal precedent for admitting dying declarations into evidence, one that my father even studied in law school during the 1960's. Hope this finds some folks for whom this will be of interest.

I did send the message to Alicia in Menard County to see if she can find anything on Pleona's parents. My e-mail is lindaj1223@juno.com. I would love to have anything you have on Uncle Tim and his family. Uncle Tim's father was William Steven Wilkerson b 1-1-1845 in Crockett, Houston County, Texas. He died in Hext, Menard County, Texas on 9-19, 1933. He was married to Eliza Ann Coffey b 10-21, 1849 in Missouri and she died 6-8-1935 (same place). They are buried at Hext Cemetery next to the farm they had there. Timothy's grandfather was also William Steven Wilkerson and HIS father was also William. If you have done very much research, you know that #1 the Wilkersons are hard to trace and #2 there must be thousands of William Wilkersons! (ha) Tim's grandfather was born 1824/25 in North Carolina and married Serina Hallmark. I have not been able to get a whole lot on her. As a matter of fact, I have not been able to find out anything on them after 1860. Tim's great-grandfather was born about 1800 (my guess) in England. He apparently died here in Texas, but I have not found out where or when. I have a lot of information I can send you...just might take me a little while. Once I learn how to scan, I will send you a photo of Tim' parents. I, too, am so glad to connect with you! Looking forward to the information and photos!!! Linda

Uncle Tim was my grandmother's older brother. Her name was Maudie and she passed away in 1990. Unfortunately I was not doing genealogy before she died and missed out on a lot! I would love to know the names of all the children of Erastus and Pleona! I don't think I have them all. I didn't know that Pleona was Indian! I remember as a child someone saying there was Indian blood in our family but my grandmother said no. I guess in-laws didn't count?? (ha) I have a connection with the lady that runs the Menard County web page....I will contact her and see if she knows. I got the obits for Erastus, Pleona & Ernest from a historical society in Tulare. Do you have info on Erastus's parents & family in Texas? I have quite a bit I can share. Just by any chance, do you know anything about his grandfather or his aunts and uncles? I have been trying to track them down. But lost them after 1860 - Texas is not always the easiest place to get information! Linda

The U. S. GenWeb Tulare Co Page has the 1900 census for Tule River Twsp and there is an Emma Jones age 13 (Abt 1887) b. KS. Father is Ellsworth Jones age 37. born MO, mother A--a? age 31 b. PA, dau Mattie age 19 b. KS, son Henry R. age 7 b. KS and dau Marie age 5. I looked at the Ancestry image and the family is at the bottom of the page with the names after Ellsworth hard to read. Henry and Marie are on the next page and has b. KS, father MO, mother PA. Elsworth's obituary is availble for purchase from the Sequoia Genealogical according to the Tulare Co. Webpage-Tulare County Obits 1889-2002--Porterville 1910 CA Tulare Co. Tule River Twsp: Thorn, Percy age 24 m1- 4 yrs b. CA parents CA Thorn, Emma age 22 (abt 1888) m1-4 yrs 1child/1living b. KS/father-Swit/mother-PA Thorn, D. Alice age 2 b. CA/CA/KS Charles Percy's parents are living next door. Looks like Emma not only was married with her "step" father's name -Van Mott- but listed the place he was born -Switzerland- instead of MO which is where Ellsworth was born, mother is born in PA just like Ellsworth's wife in 1900 census. Check Tule River, Porterville, Springville Newspapers for any news, announcements etc.

Her birth name was Jones, however, and I'm trying to track the Van Mott name, which I believe was her step-father. The marriage license lists a Walter Van Mott as a witness to the marriage, and that consent was given by "parents and step-father." I am not sure that Walter was her step-father, and have not been able to locate any information for him. Unfortunately, the marriage license does not give the names of her parents.
