Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HY.2ADE/1759.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Here is the information I have on Leora A. Woolley's parents. Excerpted from "The Memorial and Biographical History of the counties of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern," 1892, Lewis Publishing Page 450 John RILEY WOOLLEY, a well-known farmer of Exeter, Tulare County, and an early settler of California, is a native of Missouri, born February 18, 1849. His father, Alfred Woolley, was born in Illinois, and his mother, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Ferril, was a native of Missouri. The family crossed the plains to California in 1854, when he was a boy of five years. They first stopped in Amador County, where the father engaged in mining and obtained considerable gold. Like most other miners however, he afterwards lost it. Then they moved to Santa Cruz, from there to Lake County, and in 1866 came to Tulare County, settling near Farmersville. Three years later they sold out and returned to Lake County, and there the father died. John R. came to his present location in February, 1877, and purchased 160 acres of land, which he has improved by building, etc., and on which he lives. Here he is engaged in general farming and raising horses. He is also proprietor of the stage line from Exeter to Visalia, and has charge of the United States mail over this route.
I am looking for my Aunt, her maiden name was EDMISTON, but she married a LOWE and moved from Tennessee to Strathmore, CA She was born between 1914 and 1920 in Shelby County, TN I have only seen her one time in my life and that was in 1952 to 1955 and at that time she was over at my parents house showing off her wedding ring and saying she was moving to California, my other Aunt said that she moved to Strathmore, CA and it was close to Bakersfield and her husband either owned a big farm or was connected to it. On my Uncle's obituary of 1972, lists her as Mary Lowe. Can someone please help me? I think she is dead already because I can not find his or her phone number. Thank you. Bobby L. Edmiston

I have dug up some Washington Post articles from Ancestry.com -- obits, etc. on the Mades family. His daughter, Lena, his grandmother was born in 1878. Don't know which of Charles' wives was her mother. Lena married James A. Springman who was a detective on the D.C. police force. Their daughter, Hilda, married Emory Irwin Marton and is my husband's mother. I suppose you're a cousin to my husband, though many times removed. K Marton

Seeking information on the Benjamin Kell(e)y family. Benj. was b c 1772 NY (re census info). It is believed he was born/lived in the Finger Lake region of NYS. By 1816 he had migrated south to Wayne Co., PA where he built at least one tannery - possibly two (one may have been by son Benj. Jr.?). Benj. b c 1772 d after 1850 PA census marr. Mary HOEL/HOLE b c 1788 NJ d after 1850 census. They had at least 7 children: Benj., E. Mahala, Martha, Nancy, Marinda, Caroline and Robert. Robert KELL(E)Y b 1831 PA marr. Lucy Ann KILLAM - they both died in Potter Co., PA. At least 3 of their 8 children migrated to Tulare Co., CA: Frances b 1849; Mahala b 1863 marr. Joseph AKERS; and Lyman B. b 1880. Have been trying to find the parentage/family of Benjamin b c 1772 and believe he may belong to the massive O'KILLIA/KELL(E)Y family of MA then VT, but cannot find the link. Is anyone related to this KELL(E)Y family or know of them? More than willing to share what info I do have.
